West Bengal: Reverse Land Reforms

If we ask any communist about their single biggest achievement in Last 50 years of their existence in India. The answer will be always be Land Reform. According to Communists, its because of Land Reforms Kerala and Bengal are in better shape. But if Asked why Gujarat and Maharashtra is doing better in spite of not having Land Reforms, you will get a silent Stare. But this is a different issue.

Now it seems that the Communist Govt. is working hard to reverse the Land Reforms. They are busy creating new landlords on the Agricultural Land. In Last 1 year, Communist Government in West Bengal has given thousands of Acres of Prime Agriculture Land to Industrial Groups. The list include:-

1. 5,100 acre to the Salem Group: This will cause eviction of over 225,000 farmers from their agricultural land spread over seven mouzas in South 24-Parganas district.

2. 1,000 acres to Tata Group: for their Automobile Group: Approx. 20,000 Farmers would be Displaced due to this move.

3. Another 1,000 acres in Kharagpur for Tata Metaliks.

4. Infosys: 1000 acres.

5. Haldia chemical hub: 25,000 acres

6. Airport to Raichawk Expressway: 500 acres.

7. Kulpi Mini Port: 3,000 acres

8. Uluberia two-wheeler factory: 400 acres

It is said that in this mad rush for industrialization, Communist Government in West Bengal plan to acquire more than 60,000 Acres of agriculture land will be acquired. All this under the guise that it will provide Employment to the farmers. We would kindly request the Communist Lords to Educate us on "How can anyone even think of the locals, mostly farmers, getting any kind of work in such a highly mechanised unit?" I am waiting for the reaction for One Ms. Brinda Karat who was in fore Front of Sardar Sarovar Agitation.

I remember a statement from Mr. Buddha Months back.
As chief minister I cannot pursue socialism here. We are not fools. So, given the ground reality, we have to invite capitalists for the state’s development,” he said. “We have to bring in private and foreign capital for setting up industries.”
I agree Mr. Buddha you are not a foo, but Neither are We

Is MP = Minister on Parole?

In 2004, the UPA Ministry narrowly missed a golden opportunity of appointing First foreign born Prime Minister. However, it seems that are trying to makeup for missing the " firsts". Now they have the distinction of having the first Union minister to be convicted of murder. Other honorable "MP's" in the ministry are

Lalu Prasad, Railway Minister: Facing trial in five cases of Rs 1,000 cr fodder scam and a separate disproportionate asset case

Jaiprakash Yadav, Minister of State for Water Resources: Dropped from the Cabinet last year after he forced the police officials to release his brother involved in booth capturing during the elections. As Minister for Minor Irrigation in Bihar's Rabri Devi Government, Jaiprakash Yadav was named as accused by State's Vigilance Department under several provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act

MAA Fatimi, Minister of State for HRD: Alleged to have had close nexus with kidnapper/ extortionist syndicate. The then (1998) DSP of Darbhanga, Rama Shankar Rai, had stated in a report of a kidnapping case (No. 133/98): "To conclude from the study of facts and details, it is clear that the criminals had links with Fatimi." A warrant of arrest was also issued against Fatimi in 1998.

Mohd Taslimuddin, Minister of State for Agriculture: Apart from his violent and criminal record that compelled him to quit the Deve Gowda Ministry, he has suppressed several cases against him in his affidavit while filing nominations for the 2004 general elections.

Premchand Gupta, Minister of State for Company Affairs: ED has charged him in a $4.5 million embezzlment case.

How much more our democracy can sink? We have a HRD minister who is accused of Extortion and Kidnapping. I guess "Human Resource Management" takes a entirely different meaning here.

My question to Prime Minister is
Doctor what happened? We trusted you! Isnt it time that you took a stand. Your silence in issues ranging from Arunachal Pradesh to Minority appeasement is Deafening! Otherwise there is only one this which this nation will ask you "Et tu, Brutus"

Education or Religion? Its a decision which Muslims Society has to take

It seems the UPA government headed by Madam Sonia is in Christmas mood. Atleast it seems so by the gifts this government is showering on Muslim Community.

Its only weeks since Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced that he favored a "fair share" for minorities in central and state government as well as private sector jobs. I think Mr. PM should clarify whether he is suggesting that we are not "giving" fair share to Muslims in India? Never to be left behind in the race for Minority Votes, CPM also has now decided to ask the government to specifically allocate development funds for Muslims to improve their socio-economic levels.

Perhaps to prove the point, the Centre today decided to enhance the quota under haf subsidy scheme to 1.1 lakh pilgrims from the existing one lakh. With this, the Government Haj subsidy is all set to mount to Rs 385 crore approximately!

If this is the "fair share" which this government meant then sad to say that our "mai-baaps" has got it all wrong! As per NSS data Muslims comprised 12.2 per cent of the country’s population, their "fair share" in those who passed school was just 7.2 per cent. Due to low percentage of Pass out, Muslims formed just 6.5 per cent of the proportion of those enrolled in college, though they still managed to get 9.7 per cent of the total number of “professional, technical and managerial” jobs in the country.

Practicing religion is a personal Choice & Government has no role there. This "Secular" Government should put money where mouth is. Government should spend the limited funds in more useful ways. If this government would really like to Improve socio-economic status of Muslim community then they should spend money in education where it would cause impact.

On Hindsight, whom am I saying this to? This is afterall a secular government!

Tail piece:
- Our Revered "SECULAR" Leader Arjun Singh is now planning to fund madrassa education system!!
- On the issue of Government employment of Muslims, West Bengal(where CPM ruled for last 3 decades) ironically, is one of the worst, with a 24 per cent Muslim population having only 4 per cent of Government jobs. There is not a single Muslim officer in the public sector in West Bengal.

Kargil War - Pakistani Army surrenders and accepts bodies

BJP Back to Winning ways

BJP's win in UP Civic Elections will be turning point in Indian Political History. The BJP won eight of the 12 mayoral seats and the number of BJP corporators also went up from 237 to 324. This election was note worth for several reasons. First of all, this the first election after several years in which RSS has actively helped BJP. In fact, RSS pracharak Ram Lal Agrawal was loaned to the BJP to supervise the party’s election management in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal.

Now it has been proved beyond doubt that BJP's political survival is closely linked to they following the Diktats of RSS and remaining within the boundaries of Ideology.

On the other side, Hindus in UP has every reason to Alarmed. In February this year, minister for haj and minorities welfare Yaqoob Qureshi shocked the world when he offered a Rs 510-million bounty to anyone who would kill the Danish cartoonists who drew images of the Prophet. His wife was put up as the SP's mayoral candidate in Meerut—a seat held by the party. She lost to the BJP. Then it was Azam Khan, the other big Muslim in Mulayam's set-up. He declared on July 17 this year that western UP be made into a Muslim Pradesh. There were also reports of eggs and meat being consumed at the holy ghat of Har ki Pauri in Haridwar during roza-iftar organised by SP.

This election also spelled bad news for Rahul Gandhi who had personally led Congress in the Civic Election. Rahul was expecting to lead congresss party in UP during the coming UP Assembly elections

On hindsight, it seems that BJP losing the General Elections was the best thing which could have happened to Hinduvta Movement

Looming Clash of Civilsation

Last month the Islamic world was drowned in protests over a lecture by Pope Benedict XVI's. The controversy revolves around a lecture by Pope Benedict XVI titled "Faith, Reason and the University — Memories and Reflections" given at the University of Regensburg . During the lecture, Pope used a quote originating from a 1391 “Dialogue Held With A Certain Persian, the Worthy Mouterizes, in Anakara of Galatia”and the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus, touching on such issues as forced conversion, holy war, and the relationship between faith and reason. It read :
Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.
The intensity of Protest surprised most of the observers coming only months after the Danish Cartoon Episode. It spread like a Wild fire from India to Middle East to Parts of Europe. As usual Al-Qaida second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri also chipped in. Demand for apology poured in from almost every Islamic Nation.

Buckling under intense pressure, Pope apologised atleast 4 times. Three times in Public and One time in person to Muslim ambassadors and representatives.

This is not the first time Pope Benedict has been at the centre of criticism for his views on Islam. During his time as a cardinal, Pope Benedict opposed Turkey's bid to join the European Union, saying it belonged to a different cultural sphere, adding that its admission would be a grave error against the tide of history. And in 1996, he wrote that Islam had difficulty in adapting to modern life.

Its Official that It was ISI again

Now its official that ISI was directly involved in the Mumbai attacks which killed more than 200 people . The extend of their involvement is scary, out of 15 people involved in conspiracy 11 were Pakistanis.

It is hilarious that only few weeks back our Man (or Woman) Mr. Manmohan Singh met Musharaf in Havana and made Musharaf his ally in war against jihadi terrorism in India. The nation was outraged when he set up an Indo-Pakistan anti-terrorism co-operation mechanism and we were made to believe that Pakistan is dying to help India against the very terrorists they are training and Pumping into India. We are told that General is not such a bad man, Poor guy, he has his own problems, we are told. Let us co-operate with him instead of fighting against him, we are told. What is also puzzling is why did the PM stall talks after 7-11 serial commuter traib bomb blasts in Mumbai and what has changed in the 60 days since 7-11 that he has now decided to not just resume talks. In an interview after the Havana Handshake, he said that "All that I am saying is that there is an explicit commitment on the part of Pakistan to say that they will work with us to do all that is in their control to control this scourge" It is hard to believe that he was not updated on 7/11 investigation and he was not aware that ISI was involved in the plot. I guess age is catching up with Manmohan Singh or was it the Cuban Cigars or the hair brained rhetoric of Hugo Chavez or his advisers are making a complete ASS of him.
Ever since the present Indian government came into office more than two years ago, it has not been able to control the activities of the jihadi terrorists in Indian territory outside Jammu & Kashmir. There has not been a single instance of successful investigation of any major jihadi terrorist strike. What more they are bending backwards to please the Muslim Fundamentalists. The Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) was abolished because the leaders of the Muslim community projected it as anti-Muslim. Now some of the Muslim leaders are projecting the Police itself as anti-Muslim because of its arrests of some Muslims for questioning after the 11/7 terrorist strikes in Mumbai. Will the Prime Minister abolish the Police to please them?

Is it not time for the Right Minded People of this nation to rise and throw away this Joke called UPA Government

One way Ticket

In the battlegrounds of Religious conversion, you will always hear one battle cry from Christian Evangelists "Freedom of Choice and Religious Practice". I fully agree with them. It is upon individual to choose what religion he follows.

But it seems that this policy do not hold when the wind blows in reverse direction. British priest Reverend David Hart learned this the hard way. Hart, who claims to be "as much a Hindu as a Christian", is currently on a lecture tour to Kerala. While in kerala, he bought a Ganesh idol, conducted a puja for 10 days and subsequently joined a Ganesotsav procession organised by the Kerala unit of Shiv Sena to immerse his idol in the sea. He is also a follower of Lord Krishna, and had offered prayers at his local temple.

Hart, a professor of theology and religious studies at University of Winchester, says: "I celebrated Ganesha puja with the same piety and devotion with which I celebrate the Eucharist or namaz."

His actions has stirred a hot debate in UK and US, with pressure mounting on parish authorities to disrobe him as a priest of the Church of England.

Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., current president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary - one of the largest seminaries in the world, offered scathing criticism of the Hindu convert.

"He is the poster-priest for the worst and most mindless form of theological relativism. You would be hard pressed to find two more radically distinct theologies than those of Christianity and Hinduism. He is an idolater who has repudiated Christianity and biblical theism. And now he expects the Church of England to allow him to continue as a priest."

Big B Vs SRK

A Unseemingly comment by Ram Gopal Verma that "Big B is an all time great actor & SRK is accidental Star"(not sure of exacts words) is starting to become a major controversy here in India.

I personally agree with Ram Gopal Verma. Big B is a Great Actor and he is gifted. Same cannot be said for SRK. He is a creation.

Other interesting aspect of this SKR Vs Big B Controversy is the communal overtones. Yesterday I was watching the Times TV and they were running some sort of program in which people cound send their comments. it seems most of the people who were speaking in Favour SRK were from Muslim Community. Like any other issue in India is this also going to take a communal turn?

Sexual Harrasment Kerala Ministers Leads by Example

It is a shameful fact that no woman is safe any time of the day in any city in Kerala. The narrow minded and lewd attitude of some men of my state is disgusting. Any woman traveling alone becomes a target of these nasty few. Public transportation can be a nightmare where there is ahigh chance of women being groped or their modest violated. Seems now this behaiviour is spilling over to Airline Travel also with State ministers leading the list of offenders

The latest incident reportedly happened on a Kingfisher flight from Chennai to Kochi on August 3. The victim's husband was quoted on a TV channel saying that the culprit, who originally had a different seat on the substantially empty flight, took one immediately behind the woman when the plane was set for take off. According to him, the man grabbed his wife from behind once the cabin lights were switched off for take off. The lady raised an alarm and told the cabin crew who rushed to her. Other passengers, mostly belonging to Kerala, identified the culprit A MINISTER FROM CURRENT CPM LED GOVERNMENT!!! The passenger list of the airline confirms that the minister alleged to be involved is P J Joseph. It was during the previous CPM led government their state Transport Minister A Neelalohita Dasan Nadar had to resign for sexually harassing IAS official Nalini Netto.

Not to be left behind UDF had infamous Industry Minister, P K Kunhalikutty of icecream parlour sex scandal. He sexually exploited Rejina a minor who worked as a counter girl at the RKS Ice Cream Parlour.

I am not sure how much low Indian Politics can fall? Well what more can we expect froma State Givernment when we have Rapists, Murderers etc in the cabinet.

It is Science. STUPID!

Its again and again proven that Stupidity has no boundaries.

'Allah's karishma' at Mahim
Mahim beachfront is known to be one of the most polluted in the world. In normal circumstances, People will not even touch the seawater there unless you want to get some sort of skin disease. But last week thousands thronged to the Mahim creek to drink the normally filthy coastal water believing that it was holy.
On Friday night after local fishermen washed their hands in a stream off the Mahim bay after namaaz and allegedly found that the water was sweet, word began to spread about the 'miracle'. The miracle-tales were further stoked by the fact that the 'happening' had occurred in the vicinity of the old Mahim Dargah.
It was hilarious that Mineral Water Vendors did brisk business selling for as high as Rs 50. People bought the bottles and promptly emptied the contents into the sea and filled the bottles with sea water! Tell me how more stupid you can get!
The Water samples show that the water is highly unfit to drink, It would be Allah's karishma if they donot die of Gastroenteritis and other water-borne diseases. Now already overloaded BMC is bracing themselves for a possible outbreak of waterborne diseases.
Of course the simple explanation of Dilution will not hold water when it comes to matters of faith

Now Playing

I am huge fan of Bollywood movies. There is something immensely compelling about them, in spite of their somewhat common storylines.
I am currently watching a new tearjerker.
The hero is from Chakwal district of the undivided Punjab - what is now a part of Pakistan. He comes from a very poor family and was the first one in his family to go to High school. His father dropped out of school in Class VIII and became a freedom fighter. So he has the blood of a freedom fighter flowing through his veins.
He worked hard to reach top government post. The villians conspire and he is reluctantly dragged into the politics. But he is not a politician... maybe a latecomer to politics.
Fifteen Years back, he rolled out some initiatives which would have helped the poor immensely. But People didnot realise the benefit and he was criticised— names and epithets were used.
Now he is trying to do something very big. All his friends and enemies are against this move. He becomes emotional. He cries out saying "I can say in all faithfulness—in the two years, three months, that this nation has entrusted me with, it has been my effort to do the very best to serve vital national interests. (Whether) I am strong or weak — history will determine"
The nation watches stunned...
Friends this was not a movie but taken directly from the reply of our Prime Minister to Nuclear Bill Discussion!

Another Independence from Terror

Another Independence Day is here. A proud day for "most" of the Indians. Its today 59 years ago, we got our independence thru a unique Non Violent Struggle.
Today should be the day of celebrations and pure joy. However, when I look around I see a nation under siege. Every vital installation & Place in the country looks like a fort.
- Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research: The Indian Army along with the commandos of the National Security Guards (NSG) has taken over security of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) at Kalpakkam, imposing an ‘informal curfew’ in and around the facility within a radius of 8 km.
- DELHI: Tens of thousands of police and paramilitary soldiers were deployed across the Indian capital, a city of 14 million people, where terror attacks were feared the most. Sharp shooters stood atop government offices, while security forces placed barricades on almost all major streets of the city.
- MUMBAI: Mumbai looks like a fortess.
- Kasmir: Nothing new in Kashmir which always looks like Fortess, Except some of the Kasmiris celebrate Independence day as Black Day
- Assam: Assam on Saturday sounded a maximum security alert, deploying army, police and paramilitary soldiers in vulnerable areas ahead of Independence Day celebrations even as the toll from an overnight landmine explosion went up to six.
- Central India: Central India is on alert for suspected Naxal Attacks

Seems that no part of India is safe. Is this our achievement in last 59 years. We are ruled by a leader who is supported by a group who pride themselves as watchdogs. True to their word, Unlike other watchdogs these specimens only Bark. Perhaps, its contageous also as our PM also seems to be doing the same everyday.

We the Democratic Republic

We take pride in calling ourselves the largest Democracy in the world. In the last elections, more than 600 Million of us voted out a Government which ruled us for more than 5 years. The Power tansfer was smooth withour even a mumur of protest.

Now lets step back and take a realistic point of view of the government what we have today:-

- We are lead by a Prime Minister who has not even won a Municipal election in his entire political life.

- Our Defence Minister has not been elected been elected to Loksabha EVEN ONCE.

- Our Home minister is a political Non Entity

- In the cabinet we have Laloo Prasad Yadav, Union minister for railways who is under trial for no fewer than seven cases, six of them criminal, relating to the infamous fodder scam, in which an estimated Rs 900 crore worth of non-existent fodder was purchased by a succession of governments in Bihar

- Ex Minister Taslimuddin faced nine criminal charges. According to a report of the legislative committee of the Bihar assembly in 1996, he was, even then, "a habitual criminal whose offences range from extortion, cheating and rape to dacoity and attempts to murder".

- Ali Ashraf Fatimi, According to police records, he is implicated with an inter-state gang of kidnappers that has kidnapped people for ransom in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and UP. Fatimi, however, has only one criminal case actually registered against him, but the police says this is because he's enjoyed the unstinting protection of Laloo Yadav for the last 14 years.

So are we really Democratic. Is it not time to ponder

Do the right thing, fight for RTI

Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI) is one of the best things which has happened in recent times. The original law is so powerful it can change the way people interact with government.

Under this Act, any citizen can approach any government department and seek any information with respect to the working of that department, inspect any files or take copies of any documents. They have right for the following:-
  • inspect works, documents, records.
  • take notes, extracts or certified copies of documents or records.
  • take certified samples of material.
  • obtain information in form of printouts, diskettes, floppies, tapes, video cassettes or in any other electronic mode or through printouts
The logic is very simple. In a democracy, people are the masters and Government exists to serve them. People have a right to know how they are being governed. We should have a right to question them on what decisions they take on our behalf and why such decisions are being taken.

The Supreme Court has observed that Right to Information is a part of Right to Speech & Expression, which is a fundamental right under Article 19(1) of the Constitution. According to the Supreme Court, Right to Speech & Expression cannot be exercised without Right to Information.

The Right to Information Act is a potent device to weed out corruption from government institutions. But the UPA Government seems to be bent on sounding the death knell for the RTI Act. It has moved to amend the law to exclude file notings. It is obvious that the political leadership is buckling under pressure from the bureaucracy. One wonders how file notings can be exempted from disclosure when they form an integral and inseparable part of the record.

We need to act now so that this important piece of legislation and weapon in the hands of common public is not thrown into garbage by this UPA Govt. and the White Elephant bureaucracy.

UPDATE VICTORY: IT IS A VICTORY OF DEMOCRACY AND PUBLIC OPINION THAT GOVERNMENT HAD TO BACKOFF AND MAINTAIN STATUS QUO

My Friend Called Gandhi

Last week, I met Gandhi, my best friend from kerala. Of course Gandhi is his nickname, He got it during our college days due to his insistence on using Swadeshi and belief in Non Violence. It is paradox that we had such a person in kerala, a state whose economy is based on NRI's and Political System draws heavily on Violence.

I could not believe my eyes and ears (literally), when I met him. Firstly because he started to speak in chaste American Accent and secondly he had a Black Eye. More than his black eye, I was more intrigued by his American Accent as he had never left the shores of Kerala.

Nothing had prepared me for the explaination, he gave for his condition. "I have married to a girl who works in a Call Centre" was his explaination. He elaborated that his wife is employed in a Call Centre who supports customers in US and she was trained to speak in english in US accent. The poor thing has got so used to American English that she speaks American English even at home which rubbed on to him also. I can only imagine the confusion at home. Since his wife follows American Working Hours, its good evening from her when its morning for him and at night its good morning. You can imagine the "things" they might be missing, no wonder he used to go missing during lunch hours. They have two lovely kids Kittunni and Kannan whom she started calling kit and Kat. He almost had a heart attack when she started calling him Dick, short of Diwakaran.

The breaking point happened when he realised she is working in a company promoting viagra. He like any of us would do confronted her but he did not realise that now all young females in call centres are being trained martial arts. Rest is history.

Pesticola

I am not sure on why all the controversy surrounding the finding that there is unacceptable ammount of Pesticide in Coca Cola and Pepsi.

I being an eternal optimistic always like to look at the bright side of things so I decided to develop develop a list of Advantages:-

- First of all, It is not Cokes or Pepsi's mistake that there is pesticide in the drinks. Those guys donot import water they are using the water we give to them. They just sweeten it for us. Indians are reaping what they sowe.

- One of the side effects of lindane (one of the pesticide found in Coke and Pepsi) is it can reduce the sperm count. Imagine the Positive impact at a time when government is trying hard to reduce the population. I would suggest that Govt. must make it compulsary that every able bodied male should have a coke or pepsi every day. Never Mind that its banned in most of the countries. Na Rahega Baas No Bajega Basuri.

-
This is the age of multiple use stuff. We have cellphone which can be used as camera etc. Hey now we have Softdrinks which can feed both human and plants. Zero Wastage. Infact, the softdrink companies should be given "innovation of the year" award.

-
Chlorpyrifos(another pesticide found in Coke and Pepsi) is effective in controlling cockroaches, flies, termites, fire ants, and lice. For me, this seems to be the ultimate baygon spray. At Roadside Dhabas, before food, first sprinkle the table with some softdrink it will kill all the flies there. I have even started to bathe my dog with softdrink to kill all the lice on him.

HEALTH QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION

Q:I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q:Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A:No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q:How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A:Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?

A:Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good !

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy?HELLO . Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride"

Is this a consipracy?

Last couple of years were strange times for Hindus in India. We watched with dismay every symbol of our faith being attacked. I guess it started with the Outrageous arrest of Kanchi Seer Sri Jayendra Saraswathi. He was arrested during a midnight commando operation. We were told that haste was because he was planning to escape to Nepal in a helicopter. Personally, I am yet to see a helicopter which can fly from Hyderabad to Nepal. Also, when is the last time a Murder Suspect was arrested in a commando operation? Hope the same overzealous police is aware that there is a warrant against Imam Bukhari of Delhi in the Kerala High Court for the last 15 years, but no policeman had arrested him.

There were series of attacks on revered Hindu temples, RamJanam Bhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, Sankot Mochan temple in Varanasi to name a few.

Then there was the controversy surrounding ice lingam in Amarnath cave shrine. We were told that this year man-made lingam had been installed in the cave since the natural one failed to appear. Strangely, this lingam disappeared prematurely!

Now the evil shadow has been caste on the the Sabarimala Temple one of the most revered temples in South India. It started with a strange controversy in which an actress claimed that she had touched the Idol, an impossible feat considering the Idol is 11 feet inside Garba Griha.

More outrageous was the arrest and sacking of the one of the head priests of the Sabarimala temple. The whole issue started with the Thantri lodging complaint with the Kochi police alleging that he was taken to a house by a group of unidentified people and forced to pose for photographs with women. Police instead of helping him arrested him and he was sacked! The Secular Media Screamed" Sabarimala priest sacked after expose". Now it seems that the Tantri was victimized. The conspirators Shobha John along with her two aides was arrested from Kochi.

One incident can be a aberration, two a coincidence, three has to conspiracy!

Oh my Lord!

It seems offlate lord Aiyyapa is facing lot of problems from his overzealous Devotees. Its only weeks back a lady devotess claimed that she had touched him. A superhuman task considering the idol is placed 11 feets inside the Garba Griha. I tend to believe her as she is from Telugu filmworld, nothing is impossible for them. I have seen films in which they have done more difficult task like making a full dress from half inch towel etc.. Though, I am still trying to figure out how she hoodwinked the police who literally lifts you thru the 18 steps to the temple. How to put it, lets say she is well endowed to have escaped the hands of Police. Anyway, this incident has potential to generate employement for some unemployed. It seems Indian Young Lawyers Association (IYLA) and a group of women lawyers have filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions to ensure that women devotees are not prevented from entering the shrine.

Now it seems a more dangerous breed has taken an active interest in the Temple. The breed is called VIP's. Yep the same guys who roam around with a red light on their head and big board on their back. It seems that they would like a special audience with Lord in a special enclosure in front of Sanctum Sanctorum. Afterall after days long work which VIP has patience to stand in queue with good for nothing common mass. Even handicapped or children are not allowed in booth.

Lord your were right in choosing a mountain to rest. Perhaps you should have chosen a taller Mountain. Can we say Mount Everest.

Mother of All bribes

The Tamil Nadu Government is all set to splurge crores of rupees of taxpayers' money on providing free colour television sets to all those who don't have one. Acting on a poll promise the ruling DMK had made in May, the Government has identified three suppliers for the first batch of 30,000 sets to be distributed in September.

Local Administration Minister MK Stalin announced in the State Assembly on Friday that the price of the first batch had been fixed at Rs 2,965 each. Thus, the first 30,000 sets would cost Rs 8.89 crores to the exchequer. The remaining 25 lakh sets would be procured through a global tender
To Unaware: It costs approx. Rs. 4500 to give primary education to a child. This mean that this would be sufficient to provide primary education for 3.7 Million Children. As per 2001 census, Tamilnadu has less than 5.6 Million Children in the age group of 5-9. This essentially means that the amount of money TN Govt. is spending on TV, THEY CAN PROVIDE FREE EDUCATION FOR ALL THE CHILDREN IN TAMILNADU

Plan your Future

I was told that I should plan my future. I should try to "invest" money for the future. So of late, I started to visit the money section of newspaper to find avenues to "Invest" so that I can "Plan" my future.

But nothing had prepared me for the news/Ad I read this morning. I read "Plan funeral now to make sure you have the final word". Gee.. thats a worthy "Investment" to "plan" the future! Ateast we are 100% sure of the event.

It seems that in US Average cost for funeral is USD 6,500 but sometime it can go to USD20,000. I think it would be worthwhile to study if funeral can be outsourced to a low cost country.

Robert Biggins, president of the National Funeral Directors Association adds that Planning our own funeral "eases the burden for families". I can almost hear family members saying: Hey Plan your future(or funeral) don't be a burden atleast after death.

So now you are convinced that you should plan your future. As always in US they also make you aware of your rights. Hmmm...Rights after death(thats an interesting proposition...).

Some of them are like, The funeral home is required to give you a free copy of the price list when you visit. I can imagine the discussion with the salesman.

Salesman: Sir, how can I help you?
Customer: I am planning my funeral, can you please help me.
Salesman: My Pleasure sir. We will help you all the way down (or up..)
Customer: I like Red Colour. Do you have anything in that colour? Do you think it will suit me?
and so on...

Another major option is Prepaid Funeral. But it seems that s
ome families have lost their money when a funeral home went out of business. Who can blame the company, What are they supposed to do if the oldman just donot die. I guess the funeral companies may be sending an email saying "Due to Steep Increase in business in parts of Asia, we have decided to move our business to Asia in next 90 Days. If you die in next 90 days we would be able to do the cremation in US. However after 90 days you would have to travel to Asia for the same. Since you are our very special customer we can arrange for the transportation cost, However, This is a limited time 120 days offer"

Last but not the least. You are also allowed to leave instructions. According to Melanie Cullen, author of Get It Together: Organize Your Records So Your Family Won't Have To putting your letter of final instructions in a safe deposit box isn't a good idea. Apparently, If you die on a weekend or a holiday, your family may not be able to get to your safe deposit box until the bank opens. I guess she has not heard of Kerala, Where everyday is a holiday due to Bandh. On that note, can we give special instruction like "Please kick the ass of so and so, he had made my life miserable?"

So Guys what are you waiting for. Plan your future (or funeral)

Blame it on Alcohol

A peg too many can make you do stupid things. But hats off for the girls who tried to get an appointment with prime minister after a bout of drinking session.
The story goes like this, After a drinking session three youngsters in mid twenties cooly drove into
the most protected place in the country – without being frisked. One of the girl (Apparently an Air hostess) – dressed in pink chappals – alights from the car – and casually asks the SPG (Special Protection Group) officer in charge – "I want to meet the PM." The Gentleman officer tells her to park the car in the parking lot alongside the barricade – and get an appointment first. I am not surprised by his mellow reaction. He might be used to getting beaten up with all the head high women coming to meet PM, Madam Sonia, Priyanka, Jayalalitha to name a few. After meeting Madam Sonia, Jayalalitha she might have looked like a sweet puppy
On their way out they girls even showered the Lucky Media persons with flying kiss. Perhaps, the SPG was so moved by the kisses that they even allowed them to drive away from PM's residence
etc
Does this prove the theory that beauty, Alcohol and brain cannot coexist?

Its a Strange World!

Dont take me wrong. I am all for Same Sex Marriage etc. after all selecting a partner is individual choice. Perhaps its sign of changing time. In good(or bad) old days, it was so cool to look a bit filthy. We who grewup in the era of Sholay etc can vouch for it. It was rumored that theaters used special deodorant before Dharmendra came to Screen.
Now a days, . It seems that its cool to look feminine. I see guys on the road wearing earrings, growing long hairs, Grooming themselves in a beauty parlor. Few weeks back, I tried to impress a beautiful lady in the bus by giving her my seat. Imagine my confusion, when she instead of a sweet thankyou gave me "you sucker" smile. It took me two days to realize that she was a he. Thankfully, I am yet to see a guy in Bikinis. Now, how can we blame the ladies if they decide to chose the original specimen instead of going for a guy who is trying to look like a lady.

Today, I read a news from West Bengal about "Teen girls ‘marrying’ each other"

It was certainly love at first sight for 19-year-old Purnima Sarkar and 17-year-old Priya Chakraborty as they decided to marry eachother after 12 days affair.
The newspaper claims that Priya, the "groom", claimed that she was a man, with all accompanying biological features. Hmm.. Thats a interesting claim! This claim might have bowled out the poor villagers as the local women even tried to strip Priya to check her gender. I am not sure what their reaction was after the strip.
Purnima’s elder sister Aruna is convinced that Priya was a "magician" and "Nag Kanya" who had brainwashed her sister. Its a relief to know that now a days even snakes practice same sex marriage.
At the end it was left to the good offices of CPM to solve this issue. After all, they were the ones who found that Manmohan singh is actually a female. They found that Priya has a dubious reputation. She had on an earlier occasion duped another girl at Bankim Nagar. Gee.., Talk about unfaithfulness. But the good thing is Purnima neednot be afraid of unwanted pregnancy.

SHAME on us

Gamblers in India wagered millions on boy's survival

While all of India was gripped last weekend by televised efforts to save a boy who had fallen into a deep pit, bookmakers received $33-million (U.S.) in bets on whether the child would survive, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

How can people be so mean?

Thank you TOI

Mr. Jaswant SHUT UP

I am not sure what is Jaswant Singh trying to prove. I always had a high regard for him and his intelligence but seems age is catching up with him. In US they have a "Politically Correct" word for it. May be its his "Senior Moment"

I read with dismay his interview, It seems that he knew that there was a mole in Indian Government way back in 1995 and he kept it as secret for 10 years now. He wants us to believe that he didnot bring it to the attention of the then Congress Government as "As that was a period of rather grave political uncertainty in the country, right until the elections in ’98" Is he trying to say that if we have political uncertainty then Spies should be allowed to operate. Also, he should be wise enough (shall we say Old enough) to know that Congress and Grave Unceratin Future for nation are synonymous.

Then he goes on to educate us that NDA government didnot take action because "The people concerned were out of India and out of office and it was no longer relevant." I now understand the reason why NDA Government failed to take any action against Dawood Ibrahim.

I being an Eternal Optimistic tend to believe that perhaps NDA government used this mole to feed Disinformation to feed USA and that how they pulled off the Pokhran Nuclear Blasts

We are under Covert Attack

Every Pillar of this Democracy is under attack. Every foundation stone on which this country rests is being weakened. In this brief tenure UPA Govt. has managed to weaken every institution of this nation Presidential seat, Army, Judiciary, AIIMS, Election Commission, , Governors Post to name a few

Nation witnessed with Shock and dismay at the move of UPA govt. to start a Muslim Headcount in Army, Judiciary etc. With this move, even the last of Institutions which was insulated from the mechanization's of our secular politicians is under threat.

What message is this Govt. trying to send? Are they saying that Muslims in this country are being discriminated in Recruitment. If so this might be farthest from truth, Muslims in this country are enjoying much more facilities than minorities in any other country.

The result of such a STUPID move is open for everyone to see. The survey led to special recruitment drive for minorities. People were taken in without the necessary precautions. Now, Two Armymen from JAK LI, Lance Naik Mohammad Shakeel and Sepoy Abdul Haq has been detained for their suspected links with LeT.

It is time that this Government is thrown out of power.

Salute the Brave Lt Colonel Sonam Wangchuk

It is said that in time of Crisis we should think of of good things.

Today, I read with shock the news of LeT penetration into Army. It seems even the last lines of defense is breached. But thats a different discussion.

Today is July 26 Vijay Diwas, the seventh anniversary of the Kargil war. Lets take a moment off to remember the Brave Sons of this motherland who fought to protect this nation. On this ocassion Lt Colonel Sonam Wangchuk deserves a special mention. Leading a platoon of 36 braves from the Ladakh Scouts, he climbed an ice wall 80-degree climb at a height of 18,000 feet in the dead of night in the face of heavy Pakistani gunfire. The objective was to capture a vital ridge in the Chorbat La sub-sector in Batalik.

His team outraced the Pakistanis to the ridgetop before decimating them in fierce hand-to-hand combat.

It is brave souls like this who keep our faith alive for this nation.

Muslim Pradesh

I am sure Uttar Pradesh Senior State Minister Mohammad Azam Khan had best interest of the nation in mind when he gave a call for a separate ‘Muslim Pradesh’ in Western UP.

After all if we think seriously there are lot of benefits. It is really disheartening to see the communal Sangh Parivar putting up roadblocks on every move UPA is making to Liftup Muslims. Even our supreme court opposed their move on 10% reservation. I guess UPA might be asking Supreme court "u tu brutus". With this new move, this problem will be solved.

I suggest that we should implement Common Civil Code in the new state of Muslim Pradesh, I would be based on Noble principles of Shariat Law System. I would even suggest that we should set up a committee to study on how this is being done places like Pakistan.

As like all other states, It would only make sense to have arabic as common language in this province. Afterall, it is Gods own language.

It be worth exploring if Article 370 can be extended to Muslim Pradesh, Afterall it would be unfair to discriminate between states.

Amin! Mr. Home Minister

I always believed in collective judgment of more than 600 Million people. Perhaps thats why I never suspected the Intelligence and motive of our ruling class. After all, they were elected by one of the most vibrant democracies.

It was reassuring to learn from our home minister Mr. Patil that Islamic madarsas are seats of social service and that they are not the centre of terrorism. He was speaking as chief guest at the symposium on "Are madarsas viable seats of social service or breeding ground of terrorism". He also added that here knowledge of humanism is being imparted and where human values are being taught.

I being a complete duffer always had different opinion I guess he has more information and knowledge as home minister as my information comes from the communal media in India who has ulterior motive in painting a different picture about
madarsas's. I am not sure whether he was speaking for just India or our neighbors also. As sometime back our friendly neighborhood Dictator had initiated a purge of madarsas's. I am sure some of our friends in neighboring country would be mighty pleased with Mr. Patils opinion.

He also added that there were s
ome violent incidents have taken place in the recent past - in Varanasi, Jama Masjid and in Delhi and Someone must have done that. I am not sure what scale was our Home Minister using. I guess in a country where few thousands die of accident everyday, where does death of few hundred by terrorism matter. Perhaps, thats why he has very anxious of deaths in Lebanon as there fewer people die in road accident. On his comments that someone must have done this, I guess he should be checking with his colleague Arjun singh as they have information that Sangh was involved in bombing of their own headquarter. Or perhaps Laloo may be bigger help as he specialises in Death due to suicide.

No we are NOT ok

One day after the blast. The media kept reminding us that Mumbaikars are great. They have great resilience, they have Reported to work! the trains are full again. They have taken the death of 200 of their kind in stride and they have "Reported to work" as a slap on the face of Terrorism!

Its is really a Shameful exercise of Denial. Whom are they trying to protect? are they trying to protect this impotent UPA government.

Who said we are Ok, if we report to work its because we are working for survival. If we donot work for a week, our children will have to sleep empty stomach next month. We risk our life by taking train as there is no other alternative means for transportation. We are too poor to effort a car. This is a ruthless city where Darwin's theory is proved everyday. Please donot hoist our "fight for survival" for your petty political scores.

LEAVE US ALONE! Let me atleast grieve.

Guys its back to Emergency Era

Under the grab of 7/11, The UPA govt. has issued orders to ban many Blog sites. The move resembles the promulgation of Emergency and Press Censorship on June 26, 1975 which constituted the darkest chapter in press history in free India.

The list of the banned sites makes us doubt the sincerity of the move. To me it seems to be a move to gag the political opponents and right of free expression.

It is hilarious that some of the sites banned are ExposingTheLeft.Blogspot.Com which makes only one reference to Mumbai, which is: ‘‘At least 131 killed in India train bombings: More humanitarian acts from the ‘Religion of Peace’.’ Seems speaking on Hypocrisy of Left parties is also an "Anti National" act.

The other blogspot sites that the Government ordered a ban on: CommonFolkCommonSense.blogspot.com and PajamaEditors.blogspot.com, which plays on the word Mujahadeen (Pajama-hadeen). After all, the UPA govt. has to take care of the sentiments of Mujahadeen

Curiously, a fourth blogspot site, PrincessKimberly.blogspot.com, is on the Government’s blacklist. It hosts only a woman’s rantings over how she ‘‘is bored.’’ Here I definitely agree with UPA Govt., A bored woman can be dangerous

Perhaps the lessons learn by communists on Press freedom in China, North Korea is coming handy for this government.

Its pathetic that instead of taking the terror head on (like Israel), UPA govt. is trying to fool people by such superficial moves.

Who is afraid of whom?

German Chancellor Angela Merkel after meeting with George Bush

Somebody please rescue me from him

And we said Bring it on..

Dear Terrorist Bhai,

Thanks for your message and firecrackers. We have received it. Unfortunately some of my brothers were not careful enough with the firecrackers and burnt themselves. We have admitted them in hospital. Please donot worry, we are taking good care of them. I am sure you would be pleased to know that inspite of all the risk all our neighbors were there to support us . Even Afsal Mia (with whom we quarreled few years back) was also there.

Have I told you about your uncles Babar, Ghazni and Ghori. They also used to visit us and send us occasional gifts. They looked very much like you but they were more stronger. They used to break all our household items like temple. Some times they would even tease our aunties. One aunty even committed suicide because of them. Unfortunately, they are no more. I heard they died very sad. Its gods grace that we are still here and are happier than ever. We have even managed to rebuild some of the Temples they broke.

Hope your uncles across the mountains are doing ok. Please tell them that we are overwhelmed by their generosity and gifts which they keep sending us. Please tell them that we will visit them soon and we would reciprocate in kind, if not more. After all we have to take care of our izzat also.

Bhai, As a reciprocal gesture to your gift we have decided to take care of some of your friends here. We have invited them for a feast. We will let you know the details of the event in next message.

Please be careful of the firecrackers. You have bad habit of playing with them, they might explode in your hand. I still remember the last April fool, when you were fooled by the promise of those 72 Dolls. We had a good laugh when you believed your uncles and burnt yourself to get those 72 Dolls. you are really naive.

Bhai, I have to run. Its getting late for work. We are not lucky like you, we donot have rich uncles ready to feed us.

So until next time.

A case in Contrast: Israel imposes Lebanon blockade

Israel is imposing an air and sea blockade on Lebanon as part of a major offensive after two soldiers were seized by the militant group Hezbollah.

Israeli warships have entered Lebanese water to block ports, and its only international airport was closed after Israeli missiles blew up its runways.

SIMI not a terrorist organisation: SP

SIMI is not a terrorist organisation. Some of its members may be involved in terrorist activities and action should be taken against them," Samajwadi Party state general secretary and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters here.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav also appeared to take a soft stand on the outfit, saying it had not been found to be involved in the Varanasi blasts and the terrorist attack in Ayodhya.

"SIMI was not found to be involved in the two main terrorist incidents in the state," Mulayam told reporters in an informal chat here.

The news

Simply Amazing!!!

Todays Article in Asian Age Titled " Fallout of city’s extreme politics?" by Olga Tellis
The mostly widely believed reason for Tuesday’s serial bomb blasts is the confrontation between two extremist political forces in Mumbai’s politics. The Shiv Sena on the one side and Muslim reactionary forces on the other. This is being widely seen as most explicable reason for the escalating violence that erupted into this unpardonable calamity of Tuesday’s serial blasts on the Western Railway.

Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray had on Sunday evening, after the six hours of Shiv Sainiks going on a rampage, said in a fit of bravado that "those who think that they can provoke us have now got their answer." He was referring to the fact that the Shiv Sena was a united force and could hit back at people who provoke them. The people he had in mind were the ones who created the confrontation between the police and the people in Bhiwandi. This led to the brutal killing of two policemen in civilian clothes.

The Shiv Sena’s rampage in the city on Sunday following the defacement of the statue of Meenatai, wife of Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, has been seen as a show of strength after the Bhiwandi rioting. The Shiv Sena has a growing presence in Bhiwandi and has been in confrontation with Samajwadi Party city unit chief Abu Azmi, who had lost in the last Assembly elections from Bhiwandi.

The reply to Uddhav’s statement, which was quite a challenge, came in the form of the 30 minutes that saw eight bombs rip through the Western Railway network killing over 200 people, injuring over 500 and left several scores missing. These unnamed forces Uddhav Thackeray mentioned (only he knew to whom he was referring) struck back to show that their power was more lethal than looting and going on a rampage.

This point-counterpoint, or action-reaction, according to some intelligence sources, has been going on ever since the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in December 1992 by Sangh Parivar elements. As an answer to this, underworld don Dawood Ibrahim is said to have masterminded the March 12, 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, which had left 275 people dead. RDX was used for the first time to deadly effect in this action.
Now Seculars are hard at work to prove beyond doubt that Poor Terrorists are unnecessarily blamed. They were just reacting(or protecting) to provocation!

Who will tell this Lady(i am restraining myself against abusing her) that it takes months of planning to carryout something like this. Who will educate her that RDX cannot be bought from any Kirana store or it do require training to carryout such a major operation.

Now it seems that all the root cause of Bomb Blasts is Sangh Parivar! I waiting for the day when 9/11 will also be blamed on Sangh Parivar!

The Sword of Damocles

Eureka Eureka! Today our Home Minister has let us into the big secret that SIMI is involved in Mumbai blasts. However, it might be anti climax for him when he realise that this is the same group which was suspected to be involved in July 28, 2005, Shramjeevi Express explosion near Jaunpur and the Varanasi serial blasts of March 7, 2006

To the unaware SIMI was first banned in 27 September 2001 for their Antinational and Terrorist activities.

I being a simpleton was relieved. I assumed that our government is taking all the steps to keep the SHAITAN called SIMI in leash. However, I was for a rude shock when I realised:-

That our SECULAR UP Governement supported by congress and assorted Seculars is Opposing ban of SIMI on grounds that
it had not carried out any unlawful activities in the state after September 2005.
The state government is planning to withdraw criminal cases against the alleged masterminds of the 2001 Kanpur riots, including the state chief of the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) Mohammad Amir and also the two accused of killing the then ADM (finance) CP Pathak.
Interesting to Note that it was soon after the Kanpur communal flare-up in 2001 that the Centre had declared SIMI an outlawed outfit.

In my shock I decided to find Solace with MOTHER OF SECULARS, the Holy CPM, the other major component in UPA Government. Here I was for bigger shock when I realised that in just concluded state elections, CPM was supported by none other than
Coimbatore Bomb Blast Master Mind Abdul Madani’s PDP, ISI-backed jehadi outfit Jamaat-e- Islami. SIMI started as Student Wing of Jamaat-e- Islami. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP),ultra-radical National Development Front (NDF), Muslim Youth Cultural Forum, Karuna Foundation, Muslim Aikya Vedi, Sahridaya Vedi, Samskara Vedi, Solidarity Students Movement and the Movement for Protection of Islamic Symbols etc are under police scanner for SIMI presence ‘‘Yes, they(simi) went into other organisations after the ban came. We can’t do anything about it,’’ says the state DGP Raman Shrivastava. My shock was complete when I realsied that SIMI had organised a meeting of its top 25 leaders at Kozhikode last year, and a radical cleric from Lakshwadeep took classes for it in Malappuram.

Now I am confused How will our UPA Govt who owes its survival to Samajwadi Party, CPM etc who inturn owes their survival to Muslim Radical Organisations will take action against them.

More than Confused I guess I am scared!

In its latest study on SIMI, the South Asia Terrorism portal says, "In an age when 'zero-tolerance' is the declared policy towards any terrorist challenge to India's security, the official response has been marked by a typical mix of administrative lethargy, political opportunism and lack of a coherent policy."

Its only numbness now

Another Place, Another Serial Blast, Few Hundred more lost their life and became statistics in the list of sacrificial Lambs sacrificed at the altars of Islamic Terrorism. Who cares!

It was pain & sorrow when we first saw 1993 Mumbai bombings where a series of 13 bomb exploded killing more than 250 Innocent People. It turned to anger when we saw our Parliament - Temple of our Democracy being attacked. Now all the Attacks and Serial Bomb Blasts has just become statistics. It has become an monthly affair and
just adds to our Numbness.

After Mumbai blasts we thought the terrorist would be hounded, dead would be vindicated but we saw to our dismay the chief architect - Dawood Ibrahim enjoying the hospitality of our neighbor and marrying of his daughter with usual pomp under full media glare. Our media fell over each other to cover the event. It was sickening when we saw our cricketers, Celebrities and politicians enjoying his hospitality! Then came the shock of attack on parliament, we were told that "Laxman Rekha was crossed". We were lucky that atleast in this case we pretended to react. However, to our dismay our Secularists friends formed
All India defense Committee to protect one of the main accused. In the end Supreme court acquitted SAR Geelani But Asked some very uncomfortable questions

What more can we expect when rioters who are killed during police action also gets compensation (Bhiwandi rioters got Rs.1 Lakh ). While compensation is still elusive for parliament Attack widows.
Atleast, I am convince that our Maharshtra Government considers everyone equal. Perhaps thats why Innocent Victim of Terrorist Attack get same compensation as rioter (Deshmukh has announced a compensation of Rs one lakh for the relatives of those killed in Mumbai Bomb Blast) .Where our Secular Politicians are falling over each other to Free Abdul Nasser Madhani Chief Architect of Coimbatore blasts which killed more than 50 people. Where a State Minister Haji Yaqoob Qureishi announces a cash reward of Rs 51 crore for anyone who beheads the Danish cartoonist who caricatured Prophet Mohammad and still gets away with it!

In the mayhem of course our ministers worked overtime to bring humor. to the situation.

When informed of Attacks our Home Minister
said that Mrs Sonia Gandhi had been informed. It's good that even in this critical time the central government did not forget its priorities.

The Kashmir government spokesmen said that the terrorist blasts occurred to divert attention from the PoK elections. Was any great attention being paid to those elections?

I am waiting for Laloo to appoint another U. R Banerjee Commission, who after months of investigation will find out that it was not bombs which exploded it was cooking cylinders. He would add that it is common practice in Mumbai that people cook in first class compartments.

As always we are awaiting to hear the feeble reassuring words of our PM. I am sure he is working hard to get a go ahead from all the other PM's ("S"PM, "C"PM...)

All this while we were jealously watching other nations proactively protecting the citizens. US attacked 2 countries,Israell invaded Gaza to protect a single Army Person. Let them do what ever they want, We will not react after all we are SECULAR, NON ALIGNED REPUBLIC. We are second most populous nation, we can effort people getting killed

The TRAGIC IRONY:-

Compensation to Dead Rioter of Bhiwandi: Rs. 1 Lakh
Compensation to Dead Innocent Victim of Mumbai Train Blast: Rs 1 Lakh

Don’t call us Asian: British Hindus

Majority of Hindus in Britain do not like to be described as Asian, but want to be called British Indian, Hindu or even 'desi', according to a survey.

The survey, 'Connecting British Hindus', to be published in the British Parliament on Tuesday, showed that 80 per cent of the respondents prefer to be called British Indian or British Hindus

Britain's 700,000 Hindus are the country's third largest faith group after Cristians and Muslims.

North Korea's firing of Taepodong-2 missile ended in failure

Japan and the United States have confirmed that North Korea's test firing of a Taepodong-2 missile ended in failure after parts of it fell off near its launch site on Wednesday, officials said.

North Korea launched the Taepodong-2 at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday from a site in Musudanri. It was the third of the seven missiles North Korea test-fired that day.

Something to Laugh at...

Ideal Management Lesson
Suspected Bird Flue Victim. Filmed somewhere over South China Sea.

A National Tragedy Called Vidarbha

Once known as "white gold" cotton has become the NEW DEATH MACHINE in India.

In the Vidarbha cotton belt, 451 cotton farmers have killed themselves since the beginning of this harvest; about 2,300 have committed suicide since 2000.
Debt Seems to be the primary Reason for most of the suicides. As per Statistics, the region's cotton growers have borrowed more than $880 million from banks and 90% of farmers seems to have defaulted.

How the debt noose tightens: Many farmers had saved up a little money to buy seeds. When the first sowing failed, they were forced to go to the local moneylender because banks had refused them loans unless they cleared their previous dues.

A second failure meant more debt from the sahukar (moneylender) whose deal usually requires the farmer to repay double of what he borrows. Successive crop failure drove many a farmer to desperate measures.

The Aggregate Measurement of Support (AMS) Factor — that is, the difference between the prices actually obtained by the farmers and the price they would have obtained in a hypothetical free market — is the worst in the case of cotton (-258.51 per cent in 1996-97). Clearly, the negative AMS or the negative subsidy is the another major cause of farmer suicides in India.

In response to growing media attention, the Indian government appointed the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research in Mumbai to investigate the rural crisis. Its report,

“Suicides of Farmers in Maharashtra”, submitted in January, found that the Suicide Mortality Rate (SMR) for male farmers had trebled from 17 per 100,000 in 1995 to 53 in 2004 in Maharashtra—nearly four times the national average. In the crisis-ridden Amravati district, the figure was 140 in 2004—ten times the national average and seven times the state average.

More than two thirds of the cases examined in the study were farmers less than 50 years old. Close to 60 percent had been farming for more than ten years. Four in every five suicides involved poisons or pesticides used in cotton growing. The report noted that the lack of proper hospital facilities contributed to the high death toll. On average, a hospital capable of treating poisoning cases was more than 20 kilometres away.

The surviving family members were eligible for compensation of just 100,000 rupees ($US2, 200), and subject to tough conditions, which in most cases could not be met.

The report pointed out that those who committed suicide were heavily reliant on private moneylenders who often charge extortionate interest rates. “The total outstanding debt from suicide cases is 3.7 times more than the total outstanding debt from non-suicide [cases],” it stated. Most of the deceased farmers had an average debt of just 160,000 rupees ($US3,570), but could see no way of paying it.

Interesting Fact:
Though nearly 3,000 cotton farmers across the country have committed suicides because of bankruptcy, their counterparts in Gujarat feel untouched by the tragedy.

There has been no report of any farmer committing suicide in the state
due to crop failure or debts. Many feel there are reasons for entrepreneurial skills of farmers. Gujarat---the largest producer of cotton in the country---has skilfully adopted a newer technology to its benefit.
Maharashtra has the maximum 35 lakh hectares of land under cotton
cultivation and Gujarat has only 17 lakh hectares. However, when it comes to productivity, Gujarat leads with 35 lakh bales (one bale is 175 kg) which is highest in the country," says Umed Patel, research scientist at Surat Cotton Research Centre.

"One of the factors influencing the production is that nearly 30 per cent cotton fields in the state are not dependent on rains. Cotton fields in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh are dependent on rains,"

Suicide belt’s key moneylender is Cong MLA. That one of the biggest sahukars of the Vidarbha region is Congress MLA Dilip Sananda and his family based in Buldhana district. That the Sanandas are still plying their trade when police records show over 40 cases registered against them for illegal money-lending, land-grabbing to kidnapping, manhandling to torture.

Meera Jasmine sparks new row by entering temple

After the controversy surrounding Kannada actress Jaimala'es entry into Sabarimala temple, a new row has been kicked up by Malayalam actress Meera Jasmine, a Christian, offering prayers at Raja Rajeshwara temple at Taliparamba near Kannur.

Jasmine made votive offerings at the famous temple, where the entry of non-Hindus is prohibited, and paid obeisance to Lord Raja Rajeshwara, the presiding deity, on Thursday night, sparking off a protest by Hindu devotees.

I think this was really uncalled for. I personally feel that Everyone who respect Hindu Tradition and Culture should be allowed entry to the Temple. No Temple will get "Unpure" by entry of a Human Being!

Information on the Temple:

In the local region, it constitutes one of the trinity of temples held in high regard, one being the Vaidyanatha Shiva temple and the other the Krishna temple at Trichambaram.

Legend has it that Rama during his victorious return to Ayodhya from Lanka, stopped here to offer worship to Shiva (as in Rameswaram). In honor of his presence, devotees are not allowed into the namaskara mandapam even today.

Taliparamba is regarded as one of the ancient Shakti Peethams. Legend has it that the head of Sati - fell here after Shiva's tandavam following Sati's self immolation (see legend of Daksha yagna).

This temple is regarded as one of the 108 ancient Shiva temples of Kerala.
