“Straight From Heart” a biography of Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil

A biography of Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) and Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church is creating shock waves in political and religious circle in Kerala. As expected, “secular” national media has underplayed this biography.

Cardinal in his biography has some good words for BJP. He says -

'The commendable thing about the party is that they want to preserve the good aspects of Indian culture like modesty of women and promoting certain moral values, for which they would opt for stricter media censorship. For them religion is very important and they support democracy and human rights.
Besides protecting ancient culture and heritage of India, like Vedas, Upanishads and the great philosophical teachings to the six systems of Indian philosophy, BJP respects, preserves and promotes knowledge of Sanskrit and Ayurveda.'
The party is a 'great defender of our many achievements of the past'.

The worst criticism was reserved for CPM whom he called a ‘‘greater threat than BJP’’. The book says:

'The Marxist fundamentalism is a greater threat than the religious fundamentalism of the BJP. The Navy, the Army and the Air Force will come under their complete control. We can reasonably expect that what happened in China under Mao will happen in India under their rule.'

'Where is the logic of democracy if they are convinced atheists? But if they are atheists against their conscience and belief, then they are not true to themselves. Convinced atheists cannot be democratic. Democracy is based on respect for the individual and on the rule 'of the people, by the people, for the people,'

The Marxist party will use all kinds of tactics to strengthen itself in places where it is in power. That they will do throughout India once they get to power at the Centre, will be no different from Mao or Stalin

Catholic church also came in for very harsh criticism. The biography says

I would say to a great extent our nuns are not emancipated women. They are often kept under submission by the fear of revenge by priests. That's how the priests get away with whatever humiliation they heap upon them. It is a pitiable situation from which somebody has to liberate them.

A big complaint of our nuns is that the diocesan priests are treating them like servants, making them wash their clothes, prepare their food, wash the churches, etc and that too without getting paid. These are all unjust ways of treating the women religious.''

He was also critical of Vaticans sway over Churches here in India and indicated his total disagreement with the tendency of the Roman Curia to impose its decisions on bishops, often taken without adequate consultation

The Major Archbishop says

“I better not say more on this subject in public because it has agonised me many times, not only me but also many of our other bishops. I know the feelings of my fellow bishops. We are all going through a sort of crucifying obedience.”

Varun speech and secular hypocrisy

In last several days, the Secular Messiahs has worked themselves into a trance over speech of Varun Gandhi. In the frenzy, the secular channels went to town telecasting the tapes sometimes more than 20 times a day. They even lined up a full range of aunties and nephews of Varun Gandhi to condemn him. Some of aunties sounded as if Varun need some serious butt smacking to mend himself, no wonder he is AWOL for last couple of days.

I am not sure what channels are going to achieve from repeated telecast of the tapes? If they are exposing the ugly face of communalism. Constant repetition of the offending message is hardly the best way to fight it unless it is being done to promote certain political interests.

Till date the channels has not explained the source of the CD, which surfaced a full nine days after the actual speech. An analysis of the CD shows 17 cuts proving that it has been spliced and taken out of context and sometimes a voice has been superimposed in parts.

Moreover, the alacrity with which channels went to town telecasting the tapes without any counter checks, is in sharp contrast to their reservations, on allegedly ethical and professional grounds, to airing the tapes allegedly showing MPs accepting cash before the trust vote in Parliament.

Meanwhile, the secular messiahs completely turned a blind eye that congress has decided to nominate Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar for the Lok Sabha elections from Delhi.

For the unaware, Sajjan Kumar was indicted in the official report of the Nanavati Commission of Government of India on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots for instigating mobs to avenge the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Two witnesses, Salawati Kaur and Fota Singh, deposed that Sajjan Kumar addressed a meeting in front of Block A-4 gurdwara in Sultanpuri and gave instructions to kill Sikhs. The inquiry commission found credible evidence against Kumar, however the Indian government decided not to prosecute Sajjan Kumar due to lack of concrete evidence.

The official report of the Nanavati Commission of Government of India on the 1984 Anti-Sikh riots found some 'credible evidence' against Jagdish Tytler. It was also alleged in the court that then member of the Indian Parliament Jagdish Tytler was complaining to his supporters about relatively "small" number of Sikhs killed in his parliamentary constituency Delhi Sadar, which in his opinion had undermined his position in the ruling Indian National Congress party of India.

Secular India: Arrest for Statesman editor, Honor for MF Hussain!

The Ravindra Kumar and Anand Sinha, the editor and publisher of the Kolkata-basedMuslims protest in Calcutta against cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in 2006 English daily The Statesman was arrested earlier last month for "hurting the religious feelings" of Muslims after they reprinted an article by The Independent's columnist Johann Hari. Titled "Why should I respect oppressive religions?", the piece was originally printed in The Independent on 28 January.

Subsequently, Sections of central Kolkata have been paralysed by protests

A note published on 8 February said The Statesman had reprinted Hari's article because

"it mourned the marginalisation of the middle, liberal path in modern society."The Statesman has always upheld secular values and has a record of providing space to all viewpoints, even contentious ones. If we were unable to fulfill this role, we would rather cease publication with honor than compromise our basic values.

The arrests came in spite of public apology by Kumar for reprinting the article.

Meanwhile in Kerala's, LDF government choose M F Hussain for the Raja Ravi Varma Prize, the state's highest honour for artist.

Varuns outburst: Priyanka worried about Gandhi Family name

Today, Priyanka joined issues with Varun and castigated him for going against values of family.

Now I being not as enlightened as many of secular intellectuals am confused by these statements.  I am not sure which family she is referring to?. In Kerala where I come from, we follow Matrilineality in which lineage is traced through the mother and maternal ancestors

I am sure she may not be referring to her maternal family.  In that case Sonia's (her mother’s) father was a Fascist  sympathizer and was a great fan of Italy's war-time Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. He fought in the Russian campaign alongside the Germans and remained true to Fascist Nationalist ideology all his life. In fact, He even gave his three daughters Russian names in honor of the campaign in which he fought.

The picture is not that rosy even if we consider her fathers side. It was her father who justified slaughter of more than 3000 innocents sikhs by saying “ "When a giant tree falls, the earth below shakes". The butchers who led the pogrom still hold important position in congress.

Then comes the million dollar question how can granddaughter of Indira Priyadarshini Nehru and Feroze Khan become a “Gandhi”. Feroze Khan’s father, Nawab Khan, was a Muslim, and mother was a Persian Muslim.  Jawaharlal Nehru did not approve of the inter-caste marriage for political reasons. If Indira Nehru were to marry a Muslim she would have lost the possibility of becoming the heir to the future Nehru dynasty.  At this juncture, according to one story, Mahatma Gandhi intervened and adopted Feroze Khan, gave him his last name (family name/caste name) and got the name of Feroz Khan changed to Feroz Gandhi by an affidavit in England. Thus, Feroze Khan became Feroze Gandhi. Isn't it too much to cry for an adopted family name!

IPL bowled congress 0

This year 'Indian' Premier League has gone abroad. The decision was taken after congress ipllead state governments in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan told the  organisers that it would be difficult to provide security due to the General elections.

Has UPA even thought, what message is this sending to the world community? With one stroke UPA govt has downgraded the security situation in India to the levels of Pakistan where you cannot hold even a cricket match safely!

Congress as expected has washed its hands off the Indian Premier League's decision to shift the Twenty20 tournament out of the country, saying politics had not prompted such a move. Well past incidents makes us think differently.

Its only few weeks since, Lalit Modi lost the election for the post of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president. The election which would have re-elected Modi as president was won by a senior bureaucrat Sanjay Dixit by five votes. After losing the election, Lalit Modi said that the new Rajasthan government has put all its effort to defeat him
