My dear Jawaharlal,

Thank you for your letter dated 26 February 1948 which I received just now.
I have kept myself almost in daily touch with the progress of the investigation regarding Bapu's assassination case. I devote a large part of my evening to discussing with Sanjevi the day's progress and giving instructions to him on any points that arise. All the main accused have given long and detailed statements of their activities. In one case, the statement extends to ninety typed pages. From their statements, it is quite clear that no part of the conspiracy took place in Delhi. The centres of activity were Poona, Bombay, Ahmednagar and Gwalior. Delhi was, of course, the terminating point of their activity, but by no means its centre; nor do they seem to have spent more than a day or two at a time, and that too only twice between 19 and 30 January. It also clearly emerges from these statements that the RSS was not involved in it at all.. It was a fanatical wing of the Hindu Mahasabha directly under Savarkar that [hatched] the conspiracy and saw it through. It also appears that the conspiracy was limited to some ten men, of whom all except two have been got hold of. Every bit of these statements is being carefully checked up and verified and scrutinised, and where necessary, followed up. Sanjevi devotes a considerable time every day to it. Senior officers of Bombay and CP are in charge of the investigation. Delhi police hardly comes in the picture.

Of course, it is impossible for us at this stage to publicise any of these things or to say anything publicly about what is being done to unearth the conspiracy. Every item of information that is being communicated to us through sources, known and unknown, real, anonymous or pseudonymous, is being investigated of information that is being communicated to us through sources, known and unknown, real, anonymous or pseudonymous, is being investigated. More than 90 percent of these have been found to be just imagination. Most of these have been directed to the activities of RSS men in various centres. We have followed this up, and except vague allegations that sweets were distributed or joy was expressed, hardly anything of substance has been found in them. After having dealt with these matters at first hand and discussed these matters in detail with Sanjevi and other officers who are in charge of this investigation, including the Public Prosecutor of Bombay, Mr. Pettigarah, who has been advising the investigators on legal points, I have come to the conclusion that the conspiracy of Bapu's assassination was not so wide as is generally assumed, but was restricted to a handful of men who have been his enemies for a very considerable time --the antipathy can be traced right to the time when Bapu went for his talks with Jinnah, when Godse went on a fast and some others of the conspirators went to Wardha to prevent him [Bapu] from going.

Of course, his assassination was welcomed by those of the RSS and the Mahasabha who were strongly opposed to his way of thinking and to his policy . But beyond this, I do not think it is possible, on the evidence which has come before us, to implicate any other members of the RSS or the Hindu Mahasabha. The RSS have undoubtedly other sins and crimes answer for, but not for this one. If you have any time, I would be glad to send to you Sanjevi and Rana, DIG, CID, Bombay, who are here. They could explain to you the whole case as it has emerged from the investigation. They say they will take another ten days or a fortnight, at the end of which the case will be ripe for being placed in the hands of the Public Prosecutor. As soon as the Public Prosecutor is ready, we hope to appoint a Special Judge to try the case in Delhi.

As regards the RSS in Delhi, I am not aware of any prominent men or active workers whom we have left out. We hear all sorts of reports from somebody or the other regarding a certain person being an active member or not. In some cases, on such reports, arrests were made, and we soon found representations coming from Congressmen themselves testifying to their Congress sympathies and anti-RSS views. We had to release them. In other cases, on arrests of RSS people being made on similar information, both we and the Provincial Governments are being accused of rounding up innocent people. In the case of a secret organisation like the RSS which has no records of membership, no registers, etc., securing of authentic information whether a particular individual is an active worker or not is rendered a very difficult task. Nevertheless I am assured that practically all the important workers of RSS in Delhi have been rounded up. Indeed, some knowledgeable people tell me that we have rounded up more than necessary. I have already asked Provincial Governments, including Delhi, to let us know what has been the result of these arrests, how many have been arrested, how many have been released, what has been revealed in searches, etc. As soon as these reports come in, we shall have to consider our next step. If there are any key men who are still at large, I should like to know their names, so that we can follow them up that police and the local authorities who are in Delhi or elsewhere have an appreciable number of RSS sympathisers. Here again, however, the difficulty is to locate the men. Whenever I have received the least information about the names, and particulars of any RSS men in Government service, I have communicated them to Sanjevi or Mehra. In some cases, Government servants in Delhi have already been arrested for RSS activities. Delhi's quota of RSS arrests compares favourably with that of any other place or province. I doubt, therefore, whether the accusation can be substantiated that Delhi police or local authorities have been inactive on account of RSS sympathies. However, I shall again have a discussion with Mehra on the particular problems which you have mentioned and see what further action could be taken.

If only Jaswant had spend even half the time he spend studying Jinnah to study his parent organisation of 30 years!!! Moreover, If you want to blame Patel for banning RSS then you should also credit him for unbanning RSS after all both these incidents occurred under his watch as home minister. In fact, After Gandhi’s murder, it would have been more difficulty to unban RSS than ban it. If Patel really wanted he could have finished of Nascent RSS.

The seculars are raising a huge stink on Gujarat banning Jawant Singhs controversial book Jinnah — India, Partition, Independence. They see it as another instance of stifling independent views in Gujarat

However , what they forget is in 2006, The Da Vinci Code, which was not even banned in in Christian majority was either banned or suspended in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Punjab. None of them were ruled by BJP

Similarly congress government also banned James Laine's Shivaji: Hindu King in Muslim India fopr remarks that were deemed derogatory to the Maratha hero.

As per a recent surveys, conceptually Americans are slowly becoming more like Hindus and less like traditional Christians in the ways they think about God, themselves, each other, and eternity.

On the question of GOD

The Rig Veda says: "Truth is One, but the sages speak of it by many names." A Hindu believes there are many paths to God. Jesus is one way, the Qur'an is another,  None is better than any other; all are equal. While conservative Christians have not been taught to think like this. They learn in Sunday school that their religion is true, and others are false. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me."

Americans are no longer buying it. According to a 2008 Pew Forum survey, 65 percent of Americans believe that "many religions can lead to eternal life"—including 37 percent of white evangelicals, the group most likely to believe that salvation is theirs alone. Also, the number of people who seek spiritual truth outside church is growing.

On the question of Resurrection.

Christians traditionally believe that bodies and souls are sacred, that together they comprise the "self," and that at the end of time they will be reunited in the Resurrection. You need both, in other words, and you need them forever.

Hindus believe no such thing. At death, the body burns on a pyre, while the spirit—where identity resides—escapes. In reincarnation, central to Hinduism, selves come back to earth again and again in different bodies.

So here is another way in which Americans are becoming more Hindu: 24 percent of Americans say they believe in reincarnation, according to a 2008 Harris poll. More than a third of Americans now choose cremation, according to the Cremation Association of North America, up from 6 percent in 1975.

Hindu Chini Bhai Bhai

The Beijing correspondent of The Hindu - Ananth Krishnan in his article Does Beijing Really Want To break Up India? has questioned the credibility of the article titled 'China Should Break Up The Indian Union', written by D.S.Rajan, of the Chennai Centre For China Studies. A detailed retort to Ananth Krishnan’s article was published by B. Raman in his article Not Lost In Translation. Interestingly, Ananth Krishnan has taken issue with Ramans retort and has said its libellous & irresponsible. You can read Ananth Krishnan’s justifications here

For the unaware, D.S.Rajan was part of team trained and developed by Government of India after 1962 chinese debacle and has spend more than 35 years monitoring writings in the Chinese language media. While, Ananth Krishnan belongs to Kasturi Ranga Iyengar family who owns “The Hindu” (just like N. Ram, his predecessor N. Ravi etc) and is the first member of the youngest generation of the family to join the business. Ananth Krishnan took over as Beijing correspondent of The Hindu after Pallavi Aiyar moved on as Brussels correspondent of Business Standard.

One should not be surprised by this coming from The Hindu whom World Press Review (Worldpress.org) lists  as a left-leaning independent newspaper. This political polarization towards left ideology is supposed to have taken place since N. Ram took over as editor-in-chief after N. Ravi and Malini Parthasarathy were removed as editor and executive editor of the paper in an overnight bloodless coup in 2003.

N Ram is a well known CPI(M) and Marxist sympathizer. He had served as the vice president of the Students Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of CPI(M). Ram's first wife Susan was an Irish woman who was for many years in charge of Oxford University press publications in India. After separating from Susan, he is now married to Mariam (Mariam Chandy), a Kerala Syrian Christian.

This is not first time when The Hindu has went against popular sentiment (& intelligence) to project and protect Leftist Ideology and China by extension. Even Hindus Readers' Editor K. Narayanan found fault with the Hindu’s coverage of Nandigram and Tibet. In a stinging analysis he reported

I compared the reporting of the events in other Indian newspapers (English) and also The Guardian and the New York Times with that in The Hindu from March 15 to 19 and could not but note the wide gap which led to the readers’ protests. (The angles given to the stories and their display are not to be questioned; that is editorial privilege). Overall, these points struck me as noteworthy:

1. Reliance on Xinhua, the official Chinese news agency. Its reports should have been balanced by inputs from other news agencies, but their use was scanty and selective. No doubt they too would have had their angles and biases but that would have been another side of the picture. Why was The Guardian, otherwise used extensively, ignored (except for an eyewitness account which was not very informative)?

2. The Hindu’s perceptive correspondent in Beijing, Pallavi Aiyar, made no contribution, except to report Prime Minister Wen’s press conference.

3. The statements of the Chinese Prime Minister and the Chinese envoy in Delhi were fully reported. The Dalai Lama’s were truncated versions. Many readers noted that his remark on “cultural genocide” was edited out.

4. The most surprising feature was the total absence of Tibet in the “Letters to the Editor column” — in which otherwise comments appear even as events are unfolding and continue for days. A few letters appeared after an article and an editorial were published and ceased abruptly.

The Hindu uses Xinhua news agency owned by the Government of China, and a mouthpiece of the Chinese government to fetch China related stories. Also, according to Friends of Tibet, N Ram is also the mastermind behind 'India-China Association of Journalists', an embassy-sponsored organisation specializing in arranging pleasure trips for Indian journalists. After one of his trips to Tibet, The cover story in  Frontline, written by N.  Ram, provided an extended and lavishly illustrated brief for the Chinese occupation of Tibet.  The Chinese, claims Ram, have brought hospitals, roads and schools to a previously deprived land.  He minimizes the attacks on Tibetan cultural institutions and religious beliefs that the Chinese have so demonstrably carried out. , he wrote with baited breath

Unprecedented economic growth, rises in living standards, education, infrastructure development, job creation, central government subsidies, and political policies implementing the autonomy mandated in the Chinese Constitution are transforming life, work, and mindsets, especially of the young, in sparsely populated Tibet. And the railway is making a big difference.

It is sad that “The Mahavishnu of Mount Road” has now become  “People’s Daily of China” or “Beijing’s Mouthpiece” depending upon you follow B. Raman or  Nitin Pai.

Dalit Christians embrace Hinduism

More than 200 Dalits who had embraced Christianity were ‘reconverted’ to Hinduism at a village near Dindigul in a function organised by Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP).

VHP sources claimed that 207 people returned to Hinduism at a function in Tamaraikulam near here yesterday following alleged 'neglect' faced by them in Christian community.

It seems its Staff writer Dan Murphy in his article Eclipse? India says demons and terrorists and floods, oh my has not spared any effort to offend Hindu beliefs who account for 1/6th of humanity(or is it that “non believers” are not part mankind).

Did you know about these Sangh Seva projects?

• RSS has 16,208 Educational projects, 11,665 Health Projects, 8994 Self Reliance Projects & 16,412 Social Projects. These all total up to 98,768 as of now. These projects every year cover not less than 10,00,000 needy & poor children, old people, women, ill people etc. The work by RSS done whenever there is any natural calamity has not even been mentioned here but very silently & with dedication RSS reaches 1^st in any calamity to help people – be it floods, earthquakes, fires or so on.
• VHP’s 1 Teacher Schools (Ekal Vidyalaya) number up to 26, 880 & they cover 7,72,065 students of which around 6 Lakhs students are from Tribal areas. This is the largest Hindu Missionary work in India & perhaps even the world by a single organization. What’s more, wherever there is a Ekal Vidyalaya, there is Village Development Unit under which a Medical Centre is run, making the Medical Centres also to 26,880.
• VHP also has other Educational Projects: 569 Primary schools covering 59,300 students, 156 Secondary schools covering 12,750 students, 53 Sr Secondary schools covering 2120 students. Then there are 15 Residential schools, many Night schools, 104 Hostels including 44 Orphanages. All these cover over 75,000 poor & needy children who are given standard quality Education & many other facilities of life. (From one of such Tribal schools, last year Board result was 100% & the highest score a student has got was 93%, recently I met a smart student of 2^nd year MBBS. To my joy, he was from one of VHP’s Orphanages.)
• VHP has Health Projects: 34 Hospitals, 99 Dispensaries, 19 Mobile Dispensaries, 28 Ambulances, 192 First Aid Centres, 4 Medicine Collection Centres, 13 Goumutra Therapy Centres & many such related centers. TOTAL PATIENTS COVERED UNDER THESE ARE ANUALLY 2,80,000 min.
• Just recently in Pune a project Niramaya has covered 68 slums & 18 Construction Sites for Vaccination of children there in age group 1 day to 6 years. Total 12,025 children are vaccinated & 1 Lakh doses were given. They have a mobile van too so that the poor children do not need to come for it, Niramaya goes where they are.
• Not just Education or Health, some Sadhu-Sants are doing what ideally falls under the governments in power only. In Andhra Pradesh Ananthpur Dist, 700 villages have been supplied clean drinking water through modern pipes worth Rs 350 Crore. NOT by any government, but Sri Sathya Saibaba. And its free.
• Arya Samaj has 700 schools covering 15,00,000 students & 80 colleges covering 16,800 colleges.
• Swaminarayan Gurukul schools are 142 covering 12,000 students, 160 High Schools with 1,20,000 students & 25 colleges.
• Sadhvi Ritambharaji runs an Orphanage for little girls at Vrindavan, which has at this moment 350 little girls taking modern education. They would have been wandering on streets becoming victims of heinous crimes but now they have bright dreams of future in their little eyes.
• Sri Sri Guruji Ravishankarji’s developmental work covers at least 30,000 villages where Natural Agricultural projects, Organic Farming are being done where only in Karnataka 2000 youth are engaged full time & all India at least 20,000 youth look after this. He also has established a program for awareness about & help to AIDS patients all India. Recently there was a well attended caucus of Hindu Leaders organized for this & many of us have pledged our active support to it.
• Hunger is the number 1 killer in the world & in India. VHP, to fight this is doing a project ‘Ek Mutthi Anaj’ where the workers of various industries who lost jobs due to recent economic slowdown were provided with 15 kilos of food grains each for their families & the target is to cover at least 12,00,000 families with this ‘Anna Daan’ So far we have covered 15,000+ families. It also has a Food Bank where house wives take out 1 mutthi anaj everyday, it is collected by volunteers for distribution systematically. NO family has to come begging for the food is the most important part in it. Ek Mutthi Anaj Programme goes to their houses & respectfully gives food grains to them as Anna-Daan.
• Sri Sathya Saibaba also has a high-tech Heart hospital where they target to do 1,25,000 heart surgeries. 25,000 surgeries are already done with ZERO cost.
• NOT just socio-developmental projects but VHP also doing a lot in Art & Culture. In Pune, a music album made waves recently. Songs sung by Pundit Jitendra Abhisheki’s son Shounak, Pundit Bhimsen Joshi’s shishya Upendra Bhat & Shri Vasantrao Deshpande’s grandson Rahul Deshpande made this album a great hit & it was done by VHP. The artists gave programmes for VHP & then the album was made & available on the stands. Art is an important part of Hindu Dharma & it is our duty to preserve our fine arts.
• This effort was done even in children’s paintings. In tribal schools, a painting competition was organized which got tremendous response. 12 paintings were awarded & brought to people as greeting cards. All participants got nice certificates.
• At Dharmasthal near Mangalore Manjunath Devasthana is doing a unique project of innovative natural Agri-systems in 500 villages. They also have a legally accepted local justice system.
• Self Reliance Projects by us are helping youth & women in many villages with 94 Sewing centers, 63 Computer Training Centres, 306 Women’s Self Help Groups with Micro Credit & savings facility, 2 Mechanical Training Centres, 1 Honey-Bee Centre, 16 House Hold industry Centres, 112 Libraries… The list is long. & the beneficiaries are in millions.
• Sadhvi Maa Amrithanandamyiji has been running a multi-specialty hospital in Kochi which serves around 48,000 patients annually, has 38 hi-tech departments & 1,650 beds- The largest in Asia

Today is Guru Puja

Ancient Hindu texts and traditions have put the guru or the teacher on a pedestal higher than that of God. And Guru Purnima is a time to be grateful, to express gratitude towards, and bow before, the guru.

RSS holds the saffron flag as its guru and therefore the supreme. At the outset, the Sanghachalak performs puja of the saffron flag to mark the beginning of the celebrations. This is a time when each swayamsevak offers the “samarpan rashi”, a token amount of monetary contributions towards the organisation.

Will help family 'unplanning': Kerala church

Worried over what it calls the decline in the numbers of its community young, the Catholic Church in Kerala is planning medical schemes for reversal of tubectomy among women and remedial support for infertile couples.

Fr Jose Kottayil, secretary to Kerala Catholic Bishops Council’s (KCBC) Commission for Family, said the church wants financially-sound families to beget more than two children.

“The church will extend support to women who want to undergo reversal of tubectomy or recanalisation. For this, the church will work out cost-effective packages in the hospitals it runs.”

Imagine the out cry it would have caused if a Hindu Leader had said the same thing!!! In fact, the entire assorted secular brigade went into a trance when Sudarshanji raised the same issue few years back.

Arjun Singh promised to Ban it

Tehelka in an article "A Strange And Bitter Crop" exposed their dangerous plans to bring up young children "‘the Hindu way" by making them chant Brahminical chant — Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara.

All these dooms day prophecies by all knowing seculars make one wonder like in English movies… Who are these people?…..

Well these people are RSS run Vidya Bharathi educational institutions. Some of prominent schools under Vidya Bharathi unbrella are Ekal Vidyalaya (26850 Schools), Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs etc.

This year for High School Certificate examinations in Orissa, 44 of the top 102 students were from Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs. In fact, seven of the top 10 ranks are from SVMs. Trends over the past six years have shown that SVMs generally do better than other schools in the state. Last year too, these RSS-run schools had done well with 15 of its students securing top-20 positions.

From humble beginnings in 1978, the march of these RSS-run schools is a success story that has not been highlighted much. Today, there are over 11,000 Acharyas and Gurumas (teachers) in 739 SVMs across the state who live a no-frills life to teach 1.8 lakh students from kindergarten to Class XII for a pittance.

Pitabas Mehena, father of this year’s topper, Bibek Bishal Mehena says

“Though the teachers get lower salaries than their counterparts in government-run high schools, no one can beat them when it comes to dedication towards their students. For them it is a mission,”

Dharanidhar Nath, president of Board of Secondary Examination, the body that conducts the HSC examination.

“In government schools, teachers teach just for the sake of it. In Shishu Mandirs, they attach a lot of ethical value to the education,”

It is no wonder that some of “Minority” organisations and their backers which run education as “business” are threatened and would like to kill this noble mission.

The hard facts about UPA win

• The Prime Minister, Defence Minister, HRD Minister and Home Minister for four and a half years (Shivraj Patil) did not contest. In fact, 21 ministers in the previous UPA government did not contest the Lok Sabha elections
• Mani Shankar Aiyar, Santosh Mohan Deb, Anbumani Ramadoss, Shankar Singh Vaghela and Renuka Chaudhary (all cabinet ministers) lost. Total of 16 ministers lost the polls
• The present Home Minister (P Chidambaram) won only after a recount.
• We are being told day in day out that this election is death of Hindutva, the Doyens of Indian brand of secularism also lost miserable, Left Parties were reduced to 43. Others like Lalu Prasad came down from 23 to 4 and Mulayam Singh Yadav from 38 to 22 seats. And they say this

Sangh Parivar are often referred as the last of Gandhians for their traits of simple living and leading by example. Only Sangh has glorious tradition of pracharaks who dedicate their life for the nation without desire for any returns. In fact, most of pracharaks fade away from public life as unsung heros. Most of Die hard sangh activists avoid publicity like plague,  shun luxury and move around by public transport and lowest-class compartments.  

Three central aspects of the Sangh's work are typically Gandhian, and are also the key to its success.  One is its grass-roots work, its impressive record in actual social service, which is far larger and more deserving of a Nobel prize than Mother Teresa's heavily foreign-financed operations. 

The second Gandhi-like aspect of the Sangh's success is its religious dimension.  Just like Tilak, Aurobindo and Gandhi made the independence movement into a mass movement by giving it a religious dimension, Sangh-affiliated organizations and individuals are not shy about their Hindu moorings. 

The third Gandhian trait in the Sangh's style of functioning is the moral dimension which it gives to its politics.  Sangh-affiliated organizations are sincerely dedicated to the well-being of their country and society without expecting personal benefits in return.

However in spite of being part of this glorious tradition, One get a distinct feeling that the BJP leadership has not adopted these lofty ideals and in the process has lost touch with the mass. Today it seems that BJP leadership is trying to win over electorate thru high decibel low substance discussions in air-conditioned TV chat rooms. It is ironical considering  BJP is often seen as a victim of adverse publicity with almost the entire visual and print media determined to undermine its growth and promote congress and its ilks. Foundation for this defeat was laid on the day BJP held its newly constituted office-bearers’ meeting in full media glare. But for the full blast televising of the remarks at the office-bearers meet, the events that led to former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharati’s expulsion from the party could have been different

There is a famous saying in Kerala, you will certainly fall into water if you have one foot astride two boats. If you would like to see an example of “One foot astride two boats” look no further than Hindutva policy of BJP. It seems that the far-reaching ambitions of Hindutva were an embarrassment for the BJP and even the term Hindutva was whitewashed as “cultural nationalism” for the benefit of “secular ears”. In the process confusing and alienating their core constituency. They should have known a bird in the hand is worth two in the Bush. In fact, some leaders went overboard with their actions to appear ‘liberal’, mistakenly imagining it would be a good ploy for projecting their own candidature over rivals.

The organization which rose from modest electoral beginnings to govern the country thru proactive and aggressive campaigns on issues close to heart of masses is currently perceived to be reacting to events and failing to take the initiative by outlining authoritative new and sustainable policies. for some time it seemed that the entire leadership is afflicted with Foot in Mouth ailment. On key issues like the employment guarantee scheme there was little credible response and the fate of the Kanchi Shankaracharya only elicited a half-hearted and ambiguous reaction.

It high time that BJP introspect and undertake a stern and merciless dissection of its shortfall. BJP leadership need to realise that Rome was not build in a day!

Congress Star rises thanks to superstars….

Its almost a month since I posted here and I am sure LK Advani would agree with me that one month is a long time in ones lifetime. Since, I believe that one should be humble atleast in defeat, let me start with a hearty congratulations to the Congress Supporters for their stunning electoral performance.  I am sure like BJP supporters they might be equally stunned.

By now every political pundit worth his/her salt might have already come out with every plausible  reason for the electoral performance of BJP. Let me also give my two cent worth

Myth 1: There was a Congress Wave!

The fact: In the decade between two Lok Sabha elections — in 1999 and 2009 — the Congress’s vote share increased by just 0.5 per cent to 28.6 per cent but its tally went up by 91 seats to 205 this time. 

Even this 0.5% increase can be attributed to increase in its vote share in UP from  mere 12% last time to 18.3% now.

Victory of congress has Déjà vu written all over. Congress owes this victory to split in non congress votes.  The Congress-led UPA has three men to thank for its seat surge in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls: Raj Thackeray, Chiranjeevi, and Vijayakanth. They helped the victorious alliance win nearly 50 more seats in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu than anyone would have expected, as a result of which the UPA ended up with 262 seats, against the 222 it won in 2004

In Andhra Pradesh, YSR has Chiranjeevi to thank for the Congress' unexpectedly strong showing. The Andhra Pradesh results are an irony of these elections. The Congress registered a drop of 3.84% in vote share but an increase of four seats.  With Chiranjeevi's newly formed Praja Rajyam picking up an astounding 15.7% of the votes, however, the TDP suffered a sharp drop in its vote share from 33.1% to 24.9%, allowing YSR a comfortable ride back to power.

In Tamilnadu, Captain sank Amma’s ship. Despite contesting more seats this time, DMK and Congress between them managed to raise their vote share only a tad from a combined 39% last time to 40.1% this time. Even after adding the 2.4% that the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) added to the alliance’s tally. Vijayakanth and his Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) got 10% of vote share. In fact, it seems that Tamil Nadu chose DMK, rejected Congress, In TN Congress won 08 seats against 10 seats in 2004 elections.

The third game-changer was Raj. His Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) did exactly what it was expected to do. It cut into Shiv Sena-BJP votes and helped the Congress-NCP alliance to victory in 10 constituencies. Considering that the MNS contested only 12 seats, its delivery for the Congress-NCP was almost 100%. The UPA registered a spectacular second successive sweep in Mumbai and won Pune and Thane thanks to Raj.

The vote share picture is interesting here too. The Congress party's vote share fell 4.11% in Maharashtra but its seat tally rose by four, to 13. In contrast, the NCP's vote share is up by a slender 0.97% but its seat tally came down by one, to eight.

Myth 2: This is end of road for Hindutva.

Fact: Nothing can be further from truth than this. Inspite of the best efforts of Secular Brigade consisting of Media and assorted chaddi activists BJP’s has held on to its bastions.

In Karnataka, its vote share has risen from 34.8% last time to 41.6%. In fact in Manglore novice Nalin Kumar Kateel humbled Congress veteran Janardhan Poojary by 40,420 votes. In MP, it still has 43% of Vote share, In chattisgarh, It has 47% of vote share etc.. etc. If this is a symptom of end of road, I donot see it.

Myth 3: Modi didnot deliver!

Fact: The secular media is at it again. Now they are saying that Modi has not delivered. Some even had the audacity of suggesting that BJP lost on the seat where Modi campaigned! Why… because the vote share of BJP in Gujarat decreased by 0.9%!!!! They conveniently forget the fact that vote share of congress also dropped 0.5%  and BJP has won 15 seats, 1 more than last elections!

Congress Election manifesto - A critical analysis

Its election time and as usual every party has released their manifesto. Congress also has  released its manifesto even though it used the occasion more for BJP Bashing than talking about its programs. I spend some time analyzing the Manifesto and following is the result

The question is Who will be PM?

Even after going thru the manifesto several times, I am still confused about the congress candidate for PM Position. Congress silence on PM candidate in Manifesto is deafening!! Only time will tell whether this was an oversight or a deliberate omission

Manifesto: We pledge to continue our work to ensure a life of SECURITY, DIGNITY AND PROSPERITY for every citizen.

Its amusing to see UPA belatedly putting Security before Dignity and Prosperity considering the fact that their five years of rule saw serial bomb blasts in 67 cities across India. Terrorists attacked and killed us at will without fear of any retribution. It was the same UPA which scrapped POTA to protect “Human Rights of Minorities”. Afzal Guru is still alive and kicking

I am not sure about others but Hindu lost their dignity the day, this government declared Sri Ram a myth! A 5000 year old cherished belief was sacrificed on the altars of secularism!

UPA performance on “prosperity” has also been equally abysmal. In Year 2007, India’s Human Development Index (HDI) dropped two places, to 128(out of 177) where we are in good company of our neighbor Pakistan(136)!

Manifesto: The Indian National Congress is the party that, under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, led our people into freedom from colonial rule. It is the party whose leadership, by the admission of Dr. Ambedkar himself, made our Constitution possible.

History has never been strong point of Congress. After all history is also HIS-Story. The story as told by the victor. Congress having ruled this country for last 50 years has changed history to suit its purpose. Tipu Sultan became secular, Genocide of Hindus by Mughals was conveniently forgotten lest it might raise some unsecular questions! . By bodycount the Hindu Genocide will outperform Jewish Genocide by at least 10 times. In fact we should be proud of having entire mountain range named after us – HinduKush(Destruction of Hindus)

But it would have been wise if congress had left Gandhi and Ambedkar from this Muddle. Indians may have short memory but its not that short!

Though split into two, India having attained political independence through means provided by the Indian National Congress, the Congress in its present shape and form, i.e., as a  propaganda vehicle and parliamentary machine, has outlived its use. India has still to attain social, moral and economic independence in terms of its seven hundred thousand villages as distinguished from its cities and towns. The struggle for the ascendancy of civil over military power is bound to take place in India's progress towards its democratic goal. It must be kept out of unhealthy competition with political parties and communal bodies. For these and other similar reasons, the A. I. C .C. resolves to disband the existing Congress organization and flower into a Lok Sevak Sangh under the following rules, with power to alter them as occasion may demand.

Congress could have done better by not asking vote in the name of Ambedkar whom they defeated in 1952 Lok Sabha Elections! This is what B. R Ambedkar had to say about congress in his book "What Congress and Gandhi Have Done to the Untouchables"

Having led the Untouchables against the Congress for. full five years in the Round Table Conference and in the Joint Parliamentary Committee, I could not pretend to be unaffected by the results of the Elections. To me the question was: Had the Untouchables gone over to the Congress ? Such a thing was to me unimaginable. For, I could not believe that the Untouchables—apart from a few agents of the Congress who are always tempted by the Congress gold to play the part of the traitor—could think of going over to the Congress en masse forgetting how Mr. Gandhi and the Congress opposed, inch by inch up to the very last moment, every one of their demands for political safeguards. I had therefore decided to study the Returns of the election that took place in 1937.

In fact, he captured his emotions about congress in a simple quote by thucydides

Manifesto: Only a united India can fight terrorism

I think no Indian will have objection to this. But how can we stand united when Prime Minister of country ManMohan Singh gives minorities first claim of resources

We will have to devise innovative plans to ensure that minorities, particularly the Muslim minority, are empowered to share equitably in the fruits of development. They must have the first claim on resources.

Does this leave any room for unity? With one stroke, MMS downgraded 80% population of the country to second grade citizens. The government’s special order for loans to the minorities surpasses all limits of constitutional propriety.  Add to it the religion-based headcount in the army. These rabid appeasement moves would no doubt ruin the communal harmony by sowing the seed of enmity between the majority and the minority.

UPA Government continued the work of Indira Gandhi and every Independent Pillars of Democratic India was further weakened during five years of UPA Rule -

• President of India: UPA appointed a president whose only qualification was her unswerving devotion to Sonia Gandhi. We for first time in history now have a President who claims to get instructions from dead people. During her tenure as Maharashtra's health minister during the Emergency (1975-77), Patil issued a statement in the State Assembly endorsing a proposal seeking to make "family planning" (birth control) compulsory for all citizens. The government would take "appropriate steps" to ensure that all citizens adopted family planning measures she said, adding, "We are also thinking of forcible sterilization for people with anuvaunshik ajar [hereditary diseases]."
• Prime Minister: We for first time have a PM who has never been elected to the Lower House of Parliament. MMS is selected and NOT elected(and also have no intention of getting elected). He is in this position not because he is most suited because Madam Sonia considers him least dangerous for her/her family interests in Congress!.
• Election Commission: Thanks to UPA, We after long time now have a CEC whose loyalties are questionable!
• Supreme Court: Its only last week  in an interview to television channel NDTV, Sanjay Dutt said he had tapes of the conversation he had with a UPA minister who threatened him that Supreme Court cases would go against him if he did not join the Congress.
• CBI: Less said better it is

Manifesto: It has enacted the path-breaking National Rural Employment Guarantee Act

This is what World Bank has described NREGA as a barrier to economic development

The World Bank has described National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREGA) scheme of the UPA government as a policy barrier hurting economic development and poverty alleviation. Various schemes of the Indian government like NREGA, watershed programmes and schemes for development of small and medium towns are acting as "policy barriers to internal mobility", the bank said in its 'World Development Report' 2009.

One can argue that World Bank  may be wrong but our own CAG review had found major gaps in NREGA functioning

A review done by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had found that there was no data on the number of people who demanded jobs and who actually benefitted. The CAG review said in as many as 70% of the villages checked, there were no proper records available on number of households who demanded jobs and the actual number of people who benefited from the job guarantee scheme.

Manifesto: It has imparted a new momentum to the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan for primary education.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan saw a decline in expenditure which went down from Rs 12,020.2 crore in 2007-08 to Rs 11,940 crore in 2008-09 and has been further decreased to Rs 11,933.9 in this year’s interim budget.

In fact, the situation is even worse if we consider the fact that UPA Government gave a quiet burial to the Right to Education Bill citing lack of funds. It's intriguing because the government is ready to give funds to create additional places in higher education institutions to accommodate the reservation policy, but cites lack funds for elementary education.

Manifesto: It has delivered five years of record economic growth.

Nothing great considering World economy was going thru a boom during this period. We all can see the situation of Indian economy now. The World Bank has projected a slower 4 percent growth for India in 2009

 

Manifesto: It has initiated the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM)

Errr…. I have heard Vilasrao Deshmukhs promise of turning Mumbai to Shanghai, I am not sure about shanghai but it certainly looks like Venice ever after a minor drizzle!

 

 

Manifesto: It has earned for India a new respect and stature internationally.

This is Hilarious considering our failed bid for UN Security council Seat and candidature of Sashi Taroor. Poor Sashi is now fighting for MP Position from Trivandrum. In fact, India’s global stature has come down in Last 5 years! Five Years back, we had a ministry who took on world nuclear apartheid by conducting Pokhran II and now we have a ministry which gave it away!!

Manifesto: It has considerably strengthened the country’s capacity and capability to deal with both external and internal security challenges. 

My only response is OH MY GOD!!!

Hindusthan was not limited to the geographical entity called India.It is variously described as being a Bharatiya, an Arya or a Hindu. But this idea is emancipatory — this talks about the welfare of all. Ingrained in our philosophy, this is also known as Hindutva.

In the last 60 years of our Independence, many of our problems have not been addressed. We have changed rulers, we have changed governments, but true change can be brought by people’s aspirations... when they aspire to be world leaders. No neta (leader), Niti (policy), Raj (rule)... Can be complete without respect for people's aspiration. The aspiration of people of this country, who are Hindus irrespective of the religion they belong ... Is the welfare of humanity.

Recalling that Kalam had unveiled an encyclopedia on Hinduism recently, he said that every pronouncement of the former president had three essential ingredients — the need to respect India’s might (“Shakti ki aradhna”); ancient culture; and the belief that Hinduism was an amalgam of every other religion. Bhagwat also referred to Kurien’s book I too had a dream.
