Snake halts Orissa Assembly proceedings

Batla Case: Assorted Seculars want only “Guilty” verdict

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Wednesday gave clean chit to Delhi Police in Batla House encounter case in which two suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists and a decorated police officer were killed last year.

"We are clearly of the opinion that having regard to the material placed before us, it cannot be said that there has been any violation of human rights by action of police,"

However, it seems that Muslims leadership led by like of Shabnam Hashmi self professed Human right activist and Muslim MP’s from JD (U) and RLD are not satisfied by the verdict. Even Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Group has rejected the NHRC’s report on the Batla House ‘encounter’, which gives a clean chit to the Delhi Police. Now they are demanding judicial inquiry into the "encounter" by an SIT appointed by the Delhi High Court.

These assorted activists even want to re-examine the manner of appointment of members of the NHRC and its powers. As according to them current NHRC is toothless and tame body.

Nb.: I will not be surprised if these same activists demand an inquiry by UN Human Rights Commission if even Judicial Inquiry gives clean chit to police!

The after-effects of the Indo-Pak joint statement continued to play out with Pakistan making the outrageous claim of RAW involvement in a number of terrorist strikes on Pakistani soil, including the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, and in fomenting trouble in Balochistan.

This is not the first time Pakistan has accused Indian involvement in the terrorist attack in their country.What is new is that the Indian side was willingly include a reference to Balochistan in the joint statement.

Pakistan has now shifted the entire focus from Pakistan sponsored terrorism in India to Alleged Indian sponsored terrorism in Pakistan!!! Now instead of Pakistan, India is being forced to come clean on its role in Pakistan!!

Christian Science Monitor claims themselves to be award-winning (including seven Pulitzer Prizes)international news organization that covers news and feature stories from every corner of the globe with vision of journalism designed to "injure no man but bless all mankind."

It seems its Staff writer Dan Murphy in his article Eclipse? India says demons and terrorists and floods, oh my has not spared any effort to offend Hindu beliefs who account for 1/6th of humanity(or is it that “non believers” are not part mankind).

Believe it or NOT – When history is HIS-story

History teaches us that Wright brothers invented and build the world's first successful airplane. They accomplished their feat in California on December 17,1903. Their flight lasted for 37 seconds.

No one knows our own pioneer from Mumbai, Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, made an aircraft and had flown it eight years earlier in 1895. His craft called 'Marutsakha'(Friend of the Winds) flew unmanned for a few minutes and came down.

This eclipse has passed but….

BOYCOTT CONTINENTAL AIRLINES

Former President Bharat Ratna APJ Abdul Kalam, who is exempt from security checks was frisked by the ground staff of American airliner Continental Airlines at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on April 24, 2009 at the insistence of the company's American boss.  Kalam was asked to surrender before the security officials for a complete body check and remove his footwear as well.

If it had happened in a foreign country or if it was a case of mistaken identity the act was pardonable but the staff was fully aware of Kalams identity and in fact  Kalam was reportedly forced to wait on the aerobridge even as the airlines security personnel debated whether to put him under the security scanner or not.

As if to rub salt into the wound, Continental Airlines was unapologetic of their act and Airlines in a statement  said

"The procedure is followed by all carriers flying to the US from most of the countries in the world and there is no exemption to this rule. Security and customer service are key components for us at Continental Airlines. We believe that Dr.Kalam was not offended and we would like to thank him again for flying with us. it was honoured and proud to have had such a distinguished customer and hoped he has been ‘pleased by our services”

How can a foreign entity operate in India if they refuse to accept rules and regulations of host country. Act of continental airlines is gross violation of a BCAS circular which exempts specified VVIPs/VIPs from security checks. Foreign Entities who donot respect rules and regulations of this country has no space here and should be thrown out from here.

I personally have decided to stop flying continental airlines until they apologize for their act.

Another day… Another compromise of national interest - End-Use Monitoring Agreement

India has agreed to end user monitoring agreement (EUMA) with the USA . EUMA is under the belief that US Government has a constant obligation (from the time of transfer until eventual disposal) to make certain that its exported defence articles/services are used strictly as per the initially stated intent. Changes, if any, are to be intimated to the US which retains the right to veto the contemplated changes. Additionally and more importantly, the US retains right of ground inspection for physical verification of equipment.

UPS government Spin masters are terming EUMA as big agreement. According to them -

"The choice (of time and place of verification) is ours. It is we who are buying, receiving these things (equipment). It is up to us

This is assuming all these technologies will be used in a small portable application which is highly improbable!!!! How about when its used in a application which is immobile!

The CAG had in a 2008 parliamentary report had called these clauses restrictive.  They noted -

“Restrictive clauses raise doubts about the real advantages from this deal... For example, (there are) restrictions on the offensive deployment of the ship and permission to the (US) government to conduct an inspection and inventory of all articles transferred under the end-use monitoring clause of the LOA (Letter of Offer and Acceptance issued by the US government).”

In 2008, then Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta also spoke disapprovingly about EUMA

“I don’t believe in that. We pay for something and we get some technology. What I do with it is my thing,”

EUMA is not in India's long term interest as

1. Future upgrades will hinge upon US whim and fancies
2. India has no guarantee that the US inspectors will not share the data of Indian usage of the equipment with Pakistan or any other country.
3. Physical inspections will reveal indias strategic locations and intended use of these technologies
4. US can seek an inspection of equipment that could have some US part/parts in it. This means a large number of deals with Israel - that is now one of the leading suppliers to India - will be covered under this.
5. Last, each sophisticated equipment has a “source code” that prevents any tampering. It is possible that this “source code” will be used to track movement of Indian forces while they use US-produced planes or ships, said a serving officer, while expressing his reservations on the same. Such inspections have not even been allowed to Russia, India oldest defence ally. The US in past has refused to share the “source code” of F-16 fighters with Israel, its closet defence ally.

Kerala Chief Minister Achuthanandan incurred the wrath of the party high command during the Chinese aggression in 1962 as he organised a blood donation campaign for Indian soldiers, defying the party policy that led to his being shunted out of the Central Committee to the branch committee.

In 1962, VS was detained in a prison here along with several other party workers due to Indian Communist Party’s Pro-Chinese position" in the war.

In the jail, Without consulting the party elders, VS called upon the political prisoners to donate blood for the soldiers. A fellow prisoner leaked out the information to a popular pro-Left English weekly, which made big story out of it. The party later discussed the matter and Achuthanandan was demoted to the lowest tier in the organisation.

It is shocking that this party was part of ruling formation!

In another SHOCKING move UPA Govt. reverses its stand on FMCT

India has agreed to move ahead in the Conference on Disarmament towards a non-discriminatory, internationally and effectively verifiable Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty(FMCT). This was decided in the meeting between Krishna and Clinton.

FMCT agreement means -

1. An obligation not to produce fissile material for any nuclear devices.
2. An undertaking to accept verification and monitoring regime.

FMCT was primarily designed to place a check on the weapons programs of the so-called “threshold” states(at that time); Israel, India, and Pakistan.

FMCT is dangerous for India as it would restrict Indian efforts in attaining parity and deterrence against China as it would effectively put an end to production of more fissile material! In fact Pakistan is using FMCT to target India’s existing stockpiles. In a position that is entirely India-centric , Pakistan at the recent disarmament conference argued that recent nuclear deal has led to an imbalance in the region and that the FMCT should look at existing stockpiles.

I guess this is culmination of Obama plans to mount a diplomatic offensive to push India and other countries to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) & FMCT.

UPA Budget: Yes for Muslim University, No for new KV!

Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said that his ministry did not have enough funds to open any new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the current financial year. This coming from a government who has just enhanced 74% increase in Plan Outlay for Ministry of Minority Affairs (Rs. 1,000 crore in BE 2008-09 to Rs.1,740 crore in 2009-10) and also announced  a sum of Rs 50 crore fort wo Aligarh Muslim University campuses to establish at Murshidabad in West Bengal and Malappuram in Kerala.

It seems that UPA govt has taken the policy of starving one child(read majority community) to feed other child(read minorities)

With Ajmal Kasab pleading guilty to his role in the Mumbai terror attacks, Congress is  working overtime to take the credit for the same.

According to congress, the confessions of Ajmal Kasab was a result of the diplomatic offensive as India had taken up the issue at the international fora.

I think congress is starting to feel the heat of PM Mamohan Singh’s Himalayan blunder on Pakistan. But isnt it a bit of overkill to claim that international fora impressed upon Kasab to confess…

Nation stands shocked over the Indo-Pakistan joint statement issued in Egypt. The joint statement is complete reversal of Indias position on several long standing diplomatic issues.

The Balochistan Blunder

Following line was included in the text of Joint Statement issued after the meeting between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Prime Minister Gilani mentioned that Pakistan has some information on threats in Balochistan and other areas.

Its the first time that the issue of Balochistan and other areas (what are these other areas… Lahore/Peshawar?) has found a mention in any joint statement issued by the two countries. Pakistan has for long alleged that India was fomenting trouble in its restive Balochistan & other parts. Yet unlike accusations made in the past, now the allegations regarding India’s role in Balochistan are legitimized by the mention of Balochistan in joint statement. Through this act of utter foolhardiness the Indian prime minister has transformed the Balochistan from being a festering wound of Islamabad’s own creation to one caused by alleged Indian meddling. And what more he also managed to put the issue in international focus.  This is an indirect acknowledgement by New Delhi that India has a hand in what is going on in Balochistan. One can only imagine the harm this has done on Indias long standing international position

Delinking Terror from Talks

In a complete victory for Pakistan’s diplomatic establishment and complete reversal of assurances given by the government to Parliament , PM has agreed to delinked Terror from talks with Pakistan.

The joint statement says that “dialogue is the only way forward”, adding that “action on terrorism should not be linked to the Composite Dialogue process and these should not be bracketed”. it essentially means that India will not make talks conditional to Pakistan’s action against the terrorists.

This is complete reversal of India's stated position that there was no question of holding dialogue with Pakistan unless it gives enough proof of taking action against its nationals who masterminded Mumbai attacks, and initiate steps to dismantle the terror infrastructure on its soil. Pakistan has not only not taken any action but LeT founder Hafiz Mohammad Sayeed primary accused in Mumbai carnage is roaming free.

In further diluting the terror issue, the statement says

“Both leaders agreed that the real challenge is development and the elimination of poverty”

Has PM forgot that no development can take place in the shadow of fear and terror

Further shocking is the PM has even agreed to a escape route for pakistan. The agreemnent reads

Pakistan will do everything in its power in this regard

Has PM forgotten the Pakistan position post Mumbai attack that the attacks were carried out non state actors thus not within its power even though it was planned and resourced from its territory!

Parity Issue

Indian negotiators have also messed up by equating India and Pakistan as victims of terrorism. Terrorism against Pakistan comes from its domestic sources. The terrorism that is directed against India comes from the Pakistani state as well as its non- state actors. Where is the parity between the two countries as victims of terrorism?

Intelligence sharing

PM has agreed that

two countries will share real time, credible and actionable information on any future terrorist threats.

I guess age is catching up with our PM otherwise how can he forget the joint anti- terror mechanism announced by himself and Pervez Musharraf on September 16, 2006 in Havana after the Bombay blasts that took place in July that year. Later, India claims that the joint anti- terror mechanism was totally unproductive because of Pakistan’s refusal to share any credible information.

Nor has there been any sharing of real time, credible and actionable intelligence by Pakistan after the biggest terror strike against India on 26/ 11. 

A month ago, Manmohan Singh told President Asif Ali Zardari that his mandate was limited to telling him that Pakistan must not allow its territory to be used for terrorism against India.

Between June and July this year, did the Indian Prime Minister’s mandate change so drastically that he completely reversed several of Indias long held diplomatic positions!!!

• RSS has 16,208 Educational projects, 11,665 Health Projects, 8994 Self Reliance Projects & 16,412 Social Projects. These all total up to 98,768 as of now. It also has a Food Bank where house wives take out 1 mutthi anaj everyday, it is collected by volunteers for distribution systematically. NO family has to come begging for the food is the most important part in it. Ek Mutthi Anaj Programme goes to their houses & respectfully gives food grains to them as Anna-Daan.
• Sri Sathya Saibaba also has a high-tech Heart hospital where they target to do 1,25,000 heart surgeries. 25,000 surgeries are already done with ZERO cost.
• NOT just socio-developmental projects but VHP also doing a lot in Art & Culture. In Pune, a music album made waves recently. Songs sung by Pundit Jitendra Abhisheki’s son Shounak, Pundit Bhimsen Joshi’s shishya Upendra Bhat & Shri Vasantrao Deshpande’s grandson Rahul Deshpande made this album a great hit & it was done by VHP. International attention seeking PM Singhs flip flops at nations expense

Indian Negotiators slam India's climate flip at Italy forum. Till weeks before the Italy meeting, India had stuck to its guns and refused to budge under tremendous pressure from UK and the Obama regime as well as other industrialized countries to be party to the pledge to keep global temperatures from increasing by more than 2 degrees centigrade above the pre-industrial level.

However at at the Italy meet, India shifted its goal posts and PM's signed the statement agreeing to the 2-degree and several other contentious clauses that it earlier considered non-negotiable.

In one stroke, India gives up its right to the atmospheric space without gaining either the finance or the technology in adequate levels to compensate it.

This comes immediately after UPA’s Flip Flop on Pakistan. it now seems that UPA is preparing ground for talks with Pakistan effectively giving up its post 26/11 position of no talks without Pakistan dismantling terrorist infrastructure!

Now Indian Railway says Godhra Train fire caused by Carelessness.

It seems the Indian Railway has no doubt that the Godhra train burning was caused by carelessness of passengers inside. An Indian Railway advertisement which appeared in dailies on Wednesday uses a photograph of the Godhra train burning to caution passengers against fire accidents caused by carelessness.

It remains a mystery why the Railways chose the picture of the burning of a coach of the Sabarmati Express at the Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002, along with its advertisement which sends the message ‘your carelessness may lead to fire accidents’.

The ad warns about travelling with inflammable substances, lighting up stoves inside compartments and smoking inside the train and station premises.

The subtle message driven home by the ad is the finding of the U C Banerjee Commission appointed by the Union Railway Ministry to probe into the Godhra accident.

Now a Muslim University to teach Muslims

Union Budget has allocated 25 crore each for the AMU to set up campuses at Murshidabad in West Bengal and Malappuram in Kerala. Outside Kashmir, Murshidabad in West Bengal & Malapurram in Kerala are the only two Muslim majority districts in India. The significance of establishing a Aligarh “Muslim” University in “Muslim” majority districts is not lost to anyone!

One fails to understand the logic behind establishing a AMU campus in these districts. If iot was done for furthering the cause of education &  in these Muslim majority districts then AMU is hardly the best choice! Is it being assumed that a “Muslim” university will be best placed to spread higher education in the area. AMU is not known for its pursuit of all-round excellence. Except for its contribution to Mughal history, made about three decades ago, very little emanating from AMU merits the adjective, ‘excellent’. The university once supported Partition and has been known for harboring communal ideas.

This comes immediately after Mamata announcing free monthly season tickets for  students attending Madrassa, High Madrassa and senior Madrasa. At this pace, day is not far when this “secular” government would announce reservation for Madrassa students, they are anyway now considered par with CBSE students!

Under the present circumstance, one cannot be faulted for believing this move to be one of several steps to appease Muslims. The reasons behind the idea are communal and therefore dangerous for the nation!

The statistics prepared by National Crime Records shows that Delhi city, excluding the rural areas. The figures are more dreadful if we include data from whole of Delhi, including rural areas, in these areas 598 rape cases were registered in 2007, that is, every 878.9 minutes, a rape is taking place! For Mumbai the figure was 3020.7 minutes.

Warm Welcome, Gay Pride.. All are mindless imports of western culture

Some time back, I received a meeting agenda from one of my colleagues in Delhi. The first item in agenda read “Warm Welcome by xxxx”. I was a bit taken back on why would a person want more warmth on a 45 degree Delhi Summer Noon. Given an option he would prefer a glass of cold  water in a cold air-conditioned space.  My colleague got shock of his life when he saw the agenda revised to ““Cold Welcome by xxx”. Needless to say, that agenda never saw daylight…

The concept of “Warm Welcome” is a ridiculous copy from western countries with cold climate. In these places, you try comfort a person by warming him up when he arrives from freezing temperature outside.

On similar lines, What is the point in gays taking out gay pride marches in India! The Gay Pride marches were organized to commemorating the anniversary of the Stonewall riot. The Stonewall riots were a series of  violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn(which was owned by Mafia), in the Greenwich Village, New York City. Will people in United states take out march to commemorate say ……  “Jallianwala Bagh Massacre”. 

This brings up next issue – is it correct that a section of society takes out marches openly flaunting their sexual preferences? I agree with the argument that Government has no business in deciding the sex of ones bed/life partner. It is ones personal choice. But on similar lines, minorities should respect sensitiveness of majority. Imagine a child watching a Gay Pride March and asking for explanation from a heterosexual parents!!

Worried over what it calls the decline in the numbers of its community young, the Catholic Church in Kerala is planning medical schemes for reversal of tubectomy among women and remedial support for infertile couples.

Fr Jose Kottayil, secretary to Kerala Catholic Bishops Council’s (KCBC) Commission for Family, said the church wants financially-sound families to beget more than two children.

“The church will extend support to women who want to undergo reversal of tubectomy or recanalisation. For this, the church will work out cost-effective packages in the hospitals it runs.”

Imagine the out cry it would have caused if a Hindu Leader had said the same thing!!! In fact, the entire assorted secular brigade went into a trance when Sudarshanji raised the same issue few years back.

Well these people are RSS run Vidya Bharathi educational institutions. Some of prominent schools under Vidya Bharathi unbrella are Ekal Vidyalaya (26850 Schools), Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs etc.

This year for High School Certificate examinations in Orissa, 44 of the top 102 students were from Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandirs. In fact, seven of the top 10 ranks are from SVMs. Trends over the past six years have shown that SVMs generally do better than other schools in the state. Last year too, these RSS-run schools had done well with 15 of its students securing top-20 positions.

From humble beginnings in 1978, the march of these RSS-run schools is a success story that has not been highlighted much. Today, there are over 11,000 Acharyas and Gurumas (teachers) in 739 SVMs across the state who live a no-frills life to teach 1.8 lakh students from kindergarten to Class XII for a pittance.

“Though the teachers get lower salaries than their counterparts in government-run high schools, no one can beat them when it comes to dedication towards their students. For them it is a mission,”

“In government schools, teachers teach just for the sake of it. In Shishu Mandirs, they attach a lot of ethical value to the education,”

It is no wonder that some of “Minority” organisations and their backers which run education as “business” are threatened and would like to kill this noble mission.

No one wants to talk about Justice Mohapatra Commission

“Secular Media” has gone overboard with Liberhan commission and some even claimed it to be Kick out punch by congress. However, on otherside, they completely ignored Justice Mohapatra Commission. Perhaps because the findings of Justice Mohapatra Commission didnot meet the “secular desires”

Justice Mohapatra Commission was constituted to probe last year’s communal riots in Orissa’s Kandhamal district. Yesterday, a 28-page interim report was submitted about nine months after the probe panel was constituted.

The commission has attributed the prolonged violence to “cumulative anger” of locals, mostly tribals, against the negligence they have suffered for years. The report also blamed land disputes and conflict between tribals and Scheduled Caste ‘panas’ for the violence

To the utter disappointment of secular brigade, And Sangh Parivar's name was not even mentioned for any role in the attacks.

Maya raises statues over hunger of young children

Recent annual malnutrition survey conducted under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) has found that Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of children suffering from Grade IV malnourishment.

Worse, these children can barely be given the medical attention that they urgently need, as the health services in the district are abysmal. The office of the district child development programme spells out Ghazipur’s shocking statistics — out of the 1,63,150 children below age ten, 5,532 children are severely malnourished.

However, all this has not stopped Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati from unveiling 40 statues — including six of her own. Statues of Mayawati and Kanshi Ram at various places in Lucknow costed state exchequer Rs 6.68 crore. And, the 60 marble elephants at the Ambedkar memorial costed Rs 52 crore. This is just tip of iceberg. The Uttar Pradesh culture department's budget for 2009-10 shows that in 2008-09, the department had allocated more than Rs 194 crore for building statues of "great leaders" — the entire amount was spent.

THE BUNGALOW THAT A COMRADE BUILT

A two-storeyed house being built by CPM Lalgarh zonal committee secretary Anuj Pandey and his relatives became the symbol of what the Maoists termed “exploitation of peasants” and was partly demolished. Villagers converged on the house in Dharampur, beating drums and chanting: “Come and watch how a zamindar’s house made with money sucked from poor peasants is being demolished.”

Then they started breaking down parts of the house. The first-floor balcony railing was ripped out, the boundary wall on the roof demolished, the marble floor dug up and all doors and windows were smashed. Pandey, along with his two brothers, owns 40 bighas in the area — an enviable possession in a district where Bengal’s poorest of the poor live.

Pandey, a CPM wholetimer who earns Rs 1,500 a month, said he was building the house along with his brothers, one of whom deals in agri-products business. “The house is not yet complete,” Pandey said.

“They targeted my house because I stood up to the Maoists and stopped their advance beyond Lalgarh.”

With dusk descending, the villagers suspended the demolition.“We’ll complete it later,” Maoist Lalgarh leader Bikash said.

Before November 2008, Lalgarh was just another obscure village, 42 kilometers from the Midnapore railway station. But if you scratch beneath the surface you would find a simmering anger in this the poverty-stricken and tribal-dominated forestland

The state didn't wither away in Lalgarh, it just wasn't ever there. In the last 30 years, the Left Front has not built roads to connect far-flung villages, with virtually one bus plying between district headquarters of Jhargram and Belpaharai daily. Also, adjoining villages are Amlasole and Amjhora from where first hunger deaths were reported in the state, pointing to the ruling Left Front government's oppression and dispossession. The NREGA has failed to provide succor to villagers living on Ayodhya hills and in villages dotting the forests around Belpahari. Hardly any of them have got work for the mandatory 100 days.

The funds allotted to development of adivasis are regularly siphoned away by Panchayat [Read CPM] leaders. The majority of houses are still of mud and thatched roof of dry leaves while CPI (M) leaders have grossly misdirected funds allocated for Indira Awaas Yojna. Funds are distributed by local Panchayets, and people who truly need the benefits have hardly heard of the scheme, while sons and daughters of local leaders got houses. No house in the villages around has access to electricity, schools are but buildings without teachers, irrigation canals are perennially dry and the only toilets are the fields and forests.  Health Centers in the villages are at best occasionally visited by doctors and medicines are never available there.

This became ideal hunting ground for maoist who fed on the disillusionment with the laid-back and corrupt CPM administration.

It was in this background that Lalgarh captured nations attention on 2nd November when a land mine explosion targeted the convoy of West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and union steel and mines minister Ram Vilas Paswan as they were returning from the inauguration of the Jindal Steel Works special economic zone (SEZ) in Salboni in West Midnapore district. The Shalbani land mine explosion  resulted in hyperactivity of the police.

What began as rumblings of protest took the shape of a spontaneous mass uprising the next day. On 7th November, when the ruling CPI(Marxist) was “observing” the anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution throughout West Bengal, ten thousand Santhal men and women, armed with traditional weapons, came out and obstructed the roads leading to Lalgarh, disconnecting it from Midnapur and Bankura. Roads were dug up and tree trunks were placed on the road to obstruct the entry of police vehicles, in the same way as it had been done in Nandigram.

The English media instead of presenting the full picture has conveniently portrayed the happenings in Lagarh as Maoist movement and is trying to sweep the utter failure of communist movement under the carpet. Even by their own admission, the agitators of Lalgarh number about 40,000 people and no more than 35 armed Maoists who are camping in Lalgarh since March 2008, while very recently, another group of 10 cadres has slipped in.

It may be true that maoist are stroking the flame of discontent and disillusionment of common masses and providing leadership to otherwise unorganised protests. But it would be a huge mistake to brsch aside Lalgarh movement as Maoist movement! 

Tailpiece: It is amusing to see Members and supporters of the Communist Party of India-Marxists (CPI-M) staging a sit-in demonstration in New Delhi  to protest against the violence by the Maoists in the West Medinipur ditrict of West Bengal.

When times are bad its really bad… CPM now cannot even protest in their home turf!

After Inflation, India stares at deflation

For the first time since the new wholesale price index (WPI) series started in 1995, India’s annual rate of inflation turned negative, falling to minus 1.61 percent for the week ended June 6

Unfortunately, there is nothing to rejoice about this. Deflation is usually linked with severe recessions. The last time the world was in such a situation was in the 1930s and it took sustained government spending in the US and World War II to get out of it.  Deflation is caused by a shift in the supply and demand curve for goods and interest, particularly a fall in the aggregate level of demand.

Since this idles capacity, investment also falls, leading to further reductions in aggregate demand. This is the deflationary spiral.

Deflation for many people who have assets in cash, and a regular income is good news. Companies are forced to lower prices, whilst the cost of assets like a home, land, car decrease.

So how do you start benefiting from Deflation?
Make sure you simply save, and go bargain hunting.  The key is a having a steady income, whilst you save to invest in real assets that will become undervalued.
