An open letter to the PM

Mr Prime Minister, you were selected, not elected by the people, for just one reason, that you posed no threat to anyone in the Congress party. You were not selected for your excellent PhD or for your integrity; not even for your competence as a civil servant. You were considered the least of all evils. Yet, the educated middle class, including I, celebrated your appointment for we all respected your integrity, credibility and competence, and thought you would bring these to bear on your new job.

Today, after four years in office and after India has witnessed an act of war on its own soil, your government has lost all credibility with the people, and the buck stops with you. You are scared to even name Pakistan in your speeches in spite of the so-called irrefutable evidence you claim to have; nay, in fact, each time you say something publicly about this now, it sounds like a condolence message, not something that inspires confidence. Economic reforms stopped long ago, for your allies didn’t want them; there are many ministers in your cabinet who have perfected Wal-Mart’s cash-and-carry model and you can’t do a damn about it. You have failed on all counts as a leader. So, at least now, when India is under attack on its own soil, please act. And if you can’t act, please get out of the way and allow someone more effective to run the country.

In any district, where there is any act of violence, normally the district magistrate and the superintendent of police get shifted out. As PM, can you not sack or transfer your national security adviser, the Intelligence Bureau chief, the Coast Guard director general, the navy chief—can you or can you not get rid of your entire top brass and send a signal down the line? The signal you are now sending with your inaction is: don’t bother doing your job, for even if the country gets attacked, we won’t touch you.

You have personally demonstrated integrity, but what use is that alone, when almost every key minister in your cabinet is treating every file as an opportunity for cash flows? Are you telling us you don’t know that your telecom, environment and shipping ministries are the home of organized mafias looting the exchequer? What use is it telling us, “Look, I am personally honest, but I’m presiding over a band of dacoits, murderers and thugs. I am only the prime minister and can’t do anything about it”?

What use is it to head a government, Mr PM, when you can’t even protect your citizens from terror, which is the first function of any government? When you can’t act against incompetence or organized corruption in your own cabinet? Is the PM’s job so important beyond the call of your conscience that you want to hang on to it at any cost? Sir, may I remind you that you are holding a trust, not just an office.

Rashid Ahmed, a prominent minister under Pervez Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif, boasted on Pakistan TV just a few weeks ago that he ran camps to train fighters. Our actors and assorted builders all seem perfectly capable of accessing Dawood Ibrahim at will, yet we don’t have the guts to take him out. Your home minister kept combing his hair and did nothing more as India reeled under attacks and you tolerated him because loyalty to a family was more important than the blood of innocent people.

Scores of journalists have published details of the terror network including names and addresses and every time, the Pakistani government has brazenly denied them. Don’t forget it denied the existence of its nuclear programme, too, for years. How can you expect it to suddenly confess, when for most of the previous two decades, ISI and Pakistan’s army have nurtured jihadis to fight its proxy wars in Kashmir and Afghanistan? Today, the monster is so big that ISI can’t control it even if it wants to.

Even with the most sophisticated intelligence and security systems, history suggests that you cannot stop an indoctrinated suicide bomber. But that doesn’t mean we don’t put those systems in place, at least to serve as deterrents to many more who would otherwise be tempted to take a shot. Convince the nation, give us one good reason to believe that such an attack won’t happen again.

We don’t need a Rambo today, so please don’t attack Pakistan in the heat of the moment, for we all know the limits of hard power after the US misadventure in Iraq. Can you not pour money into technology and arm our security agencies (the Chinese spent $6 billion on security during the Olympics alone), invest in setting up a highly sophisticated counter-intelligence agency, get the Mossad to train our commandos, step up the diplomatic offensive at every forum to isolate Pakistan and, most importantly, come down heavily on corruption at all levels, starting with your cabinet? Can you not ensure simple reforms in the criminal justice system (which scores of committees such as Malimath have outlined) to ensure certainty of punishment for any offence from pickpocketery to terror? Can you not lead legislation to keep criminals out of politics and try to stem the flow of illegal money into campaign funding?

If not, then what use is it being a prime minister if, even after reaching the very top, you can’t do a damn in an hour of national crisis? Soon, all this will be forgotten and it will be back to business as usual. But then, history will judge you. If you have some conscience left, please do something. Don’t forget, “mind without heart, intelligence without conduct, cleverness without goodness are all tools, but only for mischief”.

Kerala nun's sexcapade stuns church

A nun who was caught on a cellphone video clip having sex in a hospital room in Kochi has been stripped of her nunhood and sent back home.

The incident that happened at the hospital run by the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC) at Aluva has left the clergy stunned.

The 37-year-old nun hailing from Alappuzha had attained nunhood 20 years ago and was employed as a receptionist of the hospital, according to a senior hospital official. “Some of our well-wishers rang us up and said they had come across a familiar face in a video that was being circulated,’’ she said when contacted over phone.

The church authorities inspected the clip and found that there was substance in the allegation. When the nun was shown the video she admitted that the woman in the film was indeed her. The nun was having an affair with the hospital driver.

“She also revealed that they had sex in a room in the hospital, but that she had no idea that the encounter was being filmed,’’ the source said.

However, there are also indications that the video may have been taken by a third person. The nun was repentant and agreed to renounce nunhood.

“I can only say that she is no more with us and is back home,’’ the source said. She also said that the driver was well-behaved and had taken up the employment only about four months ago.

UPA Govt. almost gave away Kashmir: Reports

The Washington Post said on Sunday citing an article by investigative journalist Steve Coll set for publication in New Yorker magazine.

Coll, a former Washington Post managing editor, writes that the resolution of the Kashmir issue was the cornerstone of a broad agreement. Under the plan, the Kashmir conflict would have been resolved through the creation of an autonomous region in which local residents could move freely and conduct trade on both sides of the territorial boundary.

The attempt ultimately failed, not because of substantive differences, Coll writes, but because declining political fortunes left then Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf without the clout he needed to sell the agreement at home.

With the offer to make Kashmir a Autonomous territory, UPA has made a joke of Indian Parliamentary Systems.

In 1994, Indian Parliament has unanimously passed resolution declaring entire Jammu & Kashmir that includes the territories illegally occupied by Pakistan and China as an integral part of India.

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin was banned from playing cricket for life after being found guilty of match-fixing.  This is what CBI reports after their investigation

It is clear that Azharuddin contributed substantially towards the expanding bookie/player nexus in Indian cricket. The inquiry has disclosed that he received large sums of money from the betting syndicates to 'fix' matches. There is also evidence which discloses that he roped in other players also to fix matches, which resulted in this malaise making further inroads into Indian cricket.

The evidence against Azharuddin, which is discussed next, clearly establishes the fact that he took money from bookies/punters to fix cricket matches and also the fact that the 'underworld' had approached him to fix matches for them.

Finally, Azharuddin in his statement, has specifically recalled that he 'did' the match between India and Pakistan at Jaipur for the Guptas during the Pepsi Cup Match, 1999, after which he received around Rs 10 lakh from an 'unknown' person, on behalf of Guptas. However, in view of the large amount of money Azhar has received from Guptas and the 'hospitality' he has enjoyed though them it is very difficult to believe that he 'did' only one match for them. Azharuddin has also stated during his examination that Abu Salem had rung him up on a couple of occasions to fix matches but he had refused. Ali Irani, in his statement, has said that Azharuddin had told him once that "he was 'doing' matches for Anees Ibrahim and hence, he cannot do with anyone else."

The Congress party seems to have completely lost the plot, or why else they would take a tainted person like Azhar who betrayed the trust of country and his teammates. With this act, they have legitimized the disgusting and shameful acts of Azhar!

So the key question is if congress can take Azhar, will they shy from taking someone like Azfal Guru! 

Mangalore: Ashwini Moolya Not Humiliated by Sangh Parivar, says Father

Contrary to various stories making rounds about the alleged involvement of Sangh Parivar outfits which allegedly humiliated Ashwini Moolya publicly, forcing her to end her life, Jaya Moolya, father of Ashwini Moolya, the student who ended her life after a bus owner's son named Salim allegedly raped her in a deserted place recently, said that his daughter was not harassed by the Sangh Parivar activists.  He said that Salim was directly responsible for her death. He also claimed that those who handed over Salim to the police were members of the general public.

Moolya further said, speaking to a local newspaper that he too did not chide her, except for expressing his anguish to her once while coming back home from Moodbidri police station, for getting caught in a mess. Moolya said, he had asked Ashwini to attend the school next day but her mother thought it would be better if she skips school for a day.

Salim's brother Razack however, begs to differ. He said that those who beat up Salim and handed him over to the police were in fact, right wing elements. He said that the tragedy occurred because of the humiliation heaped on the girl by the Sangh Parivar outfits and that his brother is innocent.

Amen — an autobiography of a nun

Kerala Catholic Church is facing fresh embarrassment from a tell-all autobiography written

by a nun who recently quit the Order alleging harassment from superiors.

‘Amen — an autobiography of a nun’, released last week, is written by Dr Sister Jesme, 52, who was the Principal of St Mary’s College, Thrissur, till last August when she quit the Congregation of Mother Carmelite (CMC).

“Dedicated to Jesus”, Amen is explicit in its details of the sexual repression and harassment behind the Church walls as well as the draconian rules and “greed” of the Order.  Starting with her first days in the Church, 30 years ago, she talks of priests forcing novices to have relations with them and the closet homosexuality within nun ran.

The book says Jesme herself was forced into such a relationship by a fellow nun, and that her complaints to a senior nun were ignored. According to her, the other nun said she preferred such a relationship as it ruled out pregnancy. There were others who had affairs with priests, she writes. Another passage in Amen deals with a chance encounter Jesme had with a priest in Bangalore while on her way to Dharwar to attend a UGC refresher course in English.

Talking about the Church’s draconian rules, Jesme writes in the book that she was not allowed to go home when her father died, or to even pray some extra hours for his soul. “I was able to see my father barely 15 minutes before the funeral. The alibi of the superiors was that the then senior sisters were not even lucky enough to see the bodies of their parents.”

Jesme’s autobiography includes a poignant version by her of how the convent authorities tried to twice prove that she had mental problems and get her admitted into a rehab centre after she reportedly spoke out against the malpractices within the Order.

UPA announces new Ministry of Minority Affairs

A new Ministry of Minority Affairs has been set up and a 15-point programme has been announced for the welfare of the minorities.

• 8 lakh students belonging to minority communities would be provided scholarships this year itself. The coverage will go up to nearly 40 lakh students over the next four years.
• More than 10,000 new Primary Schools and Upper Primary schools have been constructed in areas that have substantial minority concentration.
• Entrepreneurs from minority communities have been provided assistance under the Swarna Jayanti Grameen Swarozgar Yojana. Under Indira Awas Yojana, 2.39 lakh houses have been allotted to minorities during 2008-09.
• The flow of credit to minorities has increased sharply and is expected to go up to 15 per cent. Public Sector Banks have opened more than 500 bank branches in minority concentration districts.

When will the Congress stop dividing the country on the basis of majority and minority and let all people be treated the same way irrespective of religion , caste , sex .
Are the problems of poor in minorities in the country different from the problems of poor in majority ? Should these benefits be denied to poor in Majority community just because they were born into a particular Religion! 

And we were told that Indian constitution guarantee equal rights and opportunity to every citizen? I guess some in this country are more equal!

Has India become sacrificial goat for Congress politics?

Mystery surrounds the UPA government's decision to present a flat Interim Budget /Vote-On-Account (VoA) — devoid of any tax changes/fiscal measures. Standing finance minister Pranab Mukherjee has cited constitutional propriety to justify his playing by the book.
Why then did the UPA forgo an opportunity to come out with a few vote-catching fiscal proposals just ahead of elections?

The Opposition, which in normal times would have been well within its right to cry foul, would have appeared churlish in blocking say, tax/duty incentives/rebates for the salaried middle class or industry or for investors, given the urgent need for an economic recovery.

All these questions have spawned a range of speculative answers, none of which can be confirmed. The one that's doing the rounds the most is that the Congress high command did not want Mukherjee, who's standing in for a still-recovering Manmohan Singh, to steal the thunder with a flurry of crowd-pleasing proposals.

According to this version, the government might in the coming days come out with a third stimulus package.

Then a school girl, Ashwini, committed suicide. She was publicly humiliated by suspected Bajrang Dal men for being friends with a Muslim man, Salim.
The group had dragged her to a police station, summoned her parents and forced Salim to write a letter of apology.
Ashwini was harassed before the police, but the men have not been arrested yet.
Salim has been taken into police custody, now charged with possible rape of a minor. For the saffron police, women might seem the soft target but it goes beyond that.

Daughter of a Kerala CPM MLA, who was pulled out of a bus and attacked, made no secret of what her attackers had told her.
''They told me you are a Hindu, why do you want speak to Muslims?''

Now lets analyses some of facts

1. First of all doesn't it look at all suspicious on why Sixteen year old girl, a student of class ninth at the Aikala High School in Kinnigoli had gone to Maroor near Moodabidri in a bus to meet Saleem, a conductor-cum owner of the bus?

2. NDTV, Nowhere says how they came to the conclusion that those activists were "suspected" BD Members? Did they should slogans? Did they show them their BD iCard?

3. NDTV report says she was dragged to police station! Why not simply taken to police station? How can a person be dragged to police station? Actually the word was purposefully used to give a more harrowing effect!

4. NDTV Conveniently omitted the fact that on the complaint of the girl's father, a case has been registered against Saleem under Section 376 and 305 of the IPC for luring and raping the girl. Why did father register the complain? was she running away with him? This was reported in Indian Express

5. How was girl harassed in front of police?

6. And most outrageous of NDTV clubbing this incident with another incident in MLA's girl was harassed without naming the actual culprits behind the CPM MLA's daughters case. In that case, it was DYFI(Youth front of CPM) was involved!

A Mangalore police spokesperson said on phone that

according to the parents of the girl, she had told them that she was raped by Saleem on Tuesday.  The public saw this girl and her friend with Saleem and his friend. Since the girl was in school uniform, they got suspicious why she was not in school and informed the Moodabidri police. The four were let off after questioning but now Saleem has been arrested and charged with rape and abetment to suicide following a complaint by the girl’s father.

A certain young girl who was seduced to have sex with a man of 26 years killed herself to hide her shame on Tuesday night. The incident occured in a place called Maroor in Mulky police limits. According to a complaint lodged by one Jaya Moolya two girls were lured by one Saleem aged 26 and taken to a secluded places in Maroor. Some elders who caught the man in a compromising condition along with the girl handed over the girl to the Moodbidri police station while the man Saleem escaped.
Later her parents took her home and was reprimanded for her behavior. Unable to control the shame that has come over her she consumed poison and killed herself. The complaint lodged with the Mulky police by Mr. Moolya says that Saleem had raped his daughter and was responsible for her death. The police are on the lookout for Saleem who is still at large.

14-16 Indians involved in 26/11 attack: Police

Mumbai Police Commissioner Hassan Gafoor on Thursday stated on record that Indians were involved in the terror attack on Mumbai last November.

Gafoor said that 16 Indians are suspected to be involved in the Mumbai attacks, besides two who have already been arrested. None of them is a resident of Mumbai, he said, adding that they are all from 'north India'.

When rediff.com asked him," Can we say that the Mumbai police is, for the first time, claiming that there was local involvement in the Mumbai attacks," an unusually confident Gafoor replied, "The Mumbai police is not claming. This is a fact."

Now the question is why was nation kept on dark regarding this. UPA government repeatedly claimed that there were no Indians involved in the 26/11 attack! Is UPA trying to play dirty secular politics even on an incident of 26/11 magnitude?

Will Indias sovereign credit rating be downgraded?

Not just the Indian economic story, the deficit story is also increasingly turning dismal.

There is a Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act, with terminal goals in 2009-10 of a revenue deficit/GDP ratio of 0.0% and fiscal deficit of 3%. The budget estimates for 2008-09 promised a revenue deficit of 0.5% and a fiscal deficit of 2.5%. But this was without providing for items like farmers' debt relief, Sixth Pay Commission and National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).

So the budget estimates fudged and on February 16 we will know the Centre's fiscal deficit is 6.5% of GDP. That's without including Oil and fertilizer bonds, which have adverse effects similar to those of the fiscal deficit. With those off-budget items thrown in, the Centre's deficit will be 9% of GDP.

And then we have the states. The combined aggregate state deficit is around 2.5% of GDP. But that is a lagged figure, when tax revenue in states was buoyant.

Low growth affects tax revenue. Hence the State deficit will be 3% and the combined deficit will be 12% of GDP.

Twelve per cent is a horrendous figure, unparalleled since 1991. The issue is not the inevitable downgrading of India's sovereign credit rating, once this becomes public domain information on February 16. More importantly, there was a consensus on fiscal rectitude across every Government since 1991. That disappeared under UPA and the incoming government will find it difficult to reverse the trend. Instead, there will be pressures to dilute and relax FRBM, with similar moves in states.

A party of a lifetime in this Punjab town Monday ended on a wild note when a few tipsy youth, including mostly girls, clashed with the police after a raid. Most of the youngsters were drunk when the police arrived to sort things out at a hotel on Bhupindra road here. The police intervened when people complained that the youth were getting out of control.
Some of the youngsters, especially the girls, were even thrashed by the police as they continued to create scenes there. One girl was slapped by a police official after she hit him. Other girls were beaten up by policewomen, according to sources.
Police officials said that over 40 boys and girls had gathered for the party. Some of them fled after the police arrived, but those who were completely drunk were rounded up and taken to a government hospital for medical examination.
No arrests were made till late on Monday night, the police officials added.

Pinarayi Vijayan Kerala CPM state secretary in League of global leaders

Kerala's CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has joined a select league of world leaders including Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao  and former US president George Bush  who have braved missiles in recent times.

Expectedly, coming from one of Kerala's dhoti-clad denizens, the missile was a chappal as against Jiabao and Bush who had to duck shoes in London and Baghdad respectively. In other similarities between the incidents, all three protestors missed their targets and all shouted curses to back up their acts.

Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog", when he hurled the first shoe and, "this is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq" when he threw the second one.

The young man who targeted Jiabao in London had shouted "dictator" while throwing the footwear, which reportedly missed the target by a metre.

UPS has a polygamous Minister accused of raping a Minor and another minister is a smuggler

Congress's Goa minister Churchill Alemao has accused cabinet colleague and NCP leader Fransisco Pacheco of allegedly raping a minor girl, a decade ago.
"He (Pacheco) raped the daughter of a fisherwoman after taking her on a bike at Monte Hill in Margao a decade back. The mother had approached me and I had asked the then police inspector of Colva station to register the complaint," Alemao alleged at a news conference on the sidelines of ongoing state assembly session.
Pacheco is the tourism minister and both he and Alemao, the PWD minister, hail from Benaulim constituency,
From his side Pacheco produced documents from Customs department had alleged that Alemao along with his brother were declared as smugglers by the Customs department for allegedly smuggling contraband.
The arch rivals had clashed before too after Pacheco's wife Sara accused her husband of bigamy.
So we have a polygamous Minister accused of raping a Minor and another minister is a smuggler. Way to go UPA!!!!

This time Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao gets a shoe

Wen was nearing the end of his address on global economy when the man stood up, blew a whistle and shouted: "How can the university prostitute itself with this dictator? How can you listen to these lies?"

He then took off his shoe and threw it at the stage missing Wen by a few feet.

"Stand up and protest, you're not challenging him," he shouted in "European accent" before being bundled out of the room, the Times said.

Reservation is not a favour to Muslims, it is our right

There were several interesting (politically correct word for outrageous) comments during recent National Convention for Muslim Reservation organised by Joint Committee of Muslim Organisations for Empowerment. This convention was attended by high and mighty of secualr brigade. Following are some of the comments -

Students Islamic Organisation secretary Shahnawaz declared that Muslims were not seeking reservations as a favour from the state, but as a right. He said

"We should not think of this as a charity. We form 23.4 per cent of the population. Of that, some 10 per cent are affluent and do not need affirmative action. That leaves us with 12 per cent of the nation's population. So we must ask for exactly 12 per cent reservation, which is our due. Not 10 per cent, which will be an apologetic gesture, nor 15 per cent, which will be an unjust demand,"

Ibnais Mohammed of the Muslim Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam told the gathering,

"We should think of India as a corporate entity and its people as stakeholders. We have 15 per cent stake, and we deserve our share,"

Lok Janashakti Party chief Ramvilas Paswan spoke on the supposed 50 per cent ceiling that the Supreme Court has laid down for reservations 

"The 50 per cent ceiling for quota is not mentioned in the Constitution but is only an inference by the apex court,"

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said a large portion of the Muslim community in India was suffering from a sense of alienation and frustration, which is dangerous for the country.

"In the course of the struggle, we will have to find further proof for securing reservation for the community as a whole. There will also be a need to devise ways of addressing the reservation ceiling of 50 per cent".

Former chief justice A M Ahmadi justifying the need for reservation, said that of all the minorities, the Muslim community has over the last 60 years remained marginalised in all walks of life.

"They have been victims of both direct and indirect discrimination. A special effort is needed to bring them to the mainstream,"

UP madarsa board bans co-education in its institutes

The Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education (UPBME) has banned co-education in madarsas across the state, saying it is against the "spirit of Islam". UPBME Chairman Haji Rizawan Haq said

"In Islam, parda (veil) is very important. By allowing co-education we promote 'be-pardgi' (women without veil), which is against Shariyat. "This is why we have directed all the madarsas to do away with the co-education system from this academic session. And we will ensure that this directive is followed in letter and spirit,"

He also added that the avowed aim of madrasa education is to inculcate the belief and practice of Islam among its followers and guide them to follow Quran and the traditions of the Prophet. The education is basically standing on two pillars of Quran and Sunna (Tradition of Prophet Mohammad).

Ajmal Kasab the lone surviving Mumbai killer has told Intelligence Bureau interrogators that during training in Pakistan, they were exposed to the writings of Awalaki, who now lives in Yemen. Awlaki's work is available at several madrassas in Pakistan. An IB source told rediff.com that his documents were the turning point for Kasab who had doubts about taking up the gun since his mother opposed the idea. However, a portion of Awlaki's work was quoted to him during training, which finally convinced him about jihad. One document, which is in the IB's possession, quotes Awlaki as saying that jihad is obligatory for every Muslim and should be practiced by a child even if his parents object. Further, it states that jihad must be practiced even if a wife refuses a husband.

This would be interesting considering, the UPA government in a bid to mainstream madrassa education has decided to place madrassa certificates at par with those issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and affiliates of the Council of Board of School Education in India.

Is EC Election Commissioner or Element of Congress?

Finally Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami has belled the cat by recommending removal of EC Naveen Chawla to the President for "partisanship". Surprisingly, the ruling and self styled seculars decided to fault the Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami’s recommendation for removing Navin Chawla than focusing on the disturbing facts about Navin Chawla.

The main criticism against N Gopalaswami is on the timing of his recommendation. The delay was mainly because it took several reminders for Chawla to give reply to N Gopalaswami's inquiry which was finally done on December 10.

Navin Chawla, a 1969 batch IAS officer, belonging to the Delhi & Andaman Nicobar cadre held several important assignments before being appointed Election Commissioner on May 16, 2005. Shocked at the appointment of Navin Chawla as an Election Commissioner  205 MPs sent a representation against his appointment.

Naveen Chawla caught the public eye when he was posted as Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Delhi Kishan Chand during the Emergency. During this period, he was very close to Sanjay Gandhi and wielded unprecedented power. After emergency, he was examined by the Shah Commission on charges involving illegal detention orders under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act during the Emergency; treatment of detainees in jails; confirmation of detention orders by the Lt governor in four-monthly review and working of the Administrative Review Committee; and the contemptuous attitude of the Delhi administration towards the ministry of home affairs. He was strongly indicted by the Shah Commission. The report said:

“S/Shri P SBhinder, K SBajwa and Navin Chawla exercised enormous powers during the emergency because they had easy access to the then Prime Minister’s house. Their approach to the problems of the period relating to the citizens was authoritarian and callous. They grossly misused their position and abused their powers in cynical disregard of the welfare of the citizens, and in the process rendered themselves unfit to hold any public office which demands an attitude of fairplay and consideration for others. In their relish for power, they completely subverted the normal channels of command and administrative procedures.’’ 

J C Shah was not a partisan political activist. He was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1970-71) and headed the commission of enquiry that went into the Emergency excesses only in that capacity. 

Naveen Chawla escaped penal action on the basis of the Shah Commission’s report only because the Janata Party collapsed under its own weight and the government fell in July 1979. The Shah Commission, appointed under Section 3 of the Commission for Enquiry Act, 1952, had completed its work and submitted its report even before the collapse.

Indira Gandhi, on her return as Prime Minister in January 1980 lost no time in dumping the report and Navin Chawla was soon rehabilitated as deputy secretary, in the ministry of labour. He then climbed the ladder to become information and broadcasting secretary in May 2004 and picked to become Election Commissioner in May 2005 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Cabinet.  

One more striking instance of gross misconduct of Naveen Chawla that came to light was the fact that he got donations and largesse for his family-run trust of which he and his wife Rupika are trustees. From who? The very politicians he is bound to oversee and discipline. Not surprisingly, all of them belong to a single party, the Congress. Chawla got funds allocated by Congress MPs from their MPLAD Scheme. The large hearted MPs were: A A Khan, R P Goenka, Ambika Soni, Karan Singh and A R Kidwai. Chawla’s trust was also allotted six acres of land from the Congress government in Rajasthan previously headed by Ashok Gehlot. It has been reported that Ambika Soni contributed Rs 15 lakh, Karan Singh Rs 10 lakh, A R Kidwai Rs 45 lakh.

In retrospect, it is Chawla’s appointment to the EC, and his continuance in EC, that is wrong. Not his removal recommended by Gopalaswami. The CEC must be commended for his courage, not faulted on wrong reasoning.

Finally on the question on CEC's right to recommend removal of EC. The Supreme Court had expressly vested this right in the CEC by its judgement in the case of T N Seshan vs Union of India [reported in (1995) 4 SCC 611]. The court ruled that “the CEC is a permanent incumbent” and “to preserve and safeguard his independence, has to be treated differently” from other members of the EC. The CEC cannot be removed except by impeachment; the other members are removable without this process. The power to remove other members needs to be retained, added the court. The court also ruled: “having safeguarded the CEC from external and executive pressure” confidence was reposed in CEC “to safeguard the independence” of his Election Commissioners by enjoining that they cannot be removed except on his recommendation.

Ulema Express arrives in Delhi

Hundreds of Muslims from Azamgarh town of Uttar Pradesh has arrived at the Old Delhi Railway Station in a special train christened "Ulema Express" . They want to hold demonstrations in the national capital to protest against police shootout at Batla House in which two terrorists from Azamgarh were killed! It seems they are particularly angry with M C Sharma being awarded Ashok Chakra.

Mulana Amir Rasadi, convener of Ulama Council that organized the Ulema Express trip, said.

"We waited enough but by awarding the Ashok Chakra to M C Sharma (the police inspector killed in the shootout) the Congress led UPA (United Progressive Alliance) has authenticated the September 19 Batla House encounter. "The fact remains that we have lost our two promising youths. Sharma was honoured even before any probe into such a horrible incident. We have lost all faith in the system and are now united to show New Delhi our real strength,"

A curious case of "Secular" Media Reporting

Few weeks back secular media reported a speech of Shri. Mohanji Bhagwat, general secretary of RSS. According to the news report, It MohanJi said

"Hindu community is not the only community that has monopoly on the nation's culture."

Now it seems media grossly misreported BhagwatJi's speech. His actual speech was:

"We are inheritors of the glorious hoary culture. Actually, though the world calls it a Hindu culture, it is not a monopoly of the Hindus. it is for all human beings. It is actually "Manavata" – 'humanitarian view of life' – live and let live."

The Report from news media is misleading in the sense that Shri. Mohanji Bhagwat has used the word 'Hindu' as a cultural identity of the nation, and said that the content of this culture universal and is beneficial to all humanity. The newsmedia misquoted news and the heading based on it identify the word Hindu with some community.

Mangalore Incident: Sit back and evaluate

The secular media has gone berserk on the shameful incident of 40 people reportedly barged into a pub in Malgalore and viciously attacked girls who were at the pub.  I guess this being in a BJP ruled state gave them additional motivational.

Moral policing is not something only Hindu Organizations do. We have seen moral policing by each and every group in India.

• Why do people forget about banning of Dance Bars in Mumbai?
• How about banning of various books and Films by both communists and congress?
• You cannot grow certain kind of plant in J&K as it is used in blending beer and Liquor is  against Islam!!!!

So please spare us from this moral outrage over Hindu organizations doing moral policing.

Then come the issue of some youths attacking people in a PUB some of them happened to females.I am not in favour of people taking law and order in their hand.

But can some one answer these questions for me:-

• Will you allow a Dance Bar (in that matter any Bar) near to your house. I remember there was a plan to start a bar near to my house and the entire community came together and started an agitation and got in stopped. So every community like to keep its neighborhood clean.
• How is this so different from the various public lynching cases we have seen in past? A simple browse would give us 100's of such cases.

This is a simple law and order problem and it should be tackled at that level  and Karnataka Govt has already initiated action against them.

I am deeply upset to tell you that I have resigned. For the last three years we've been like a close-knit family and to leave like this so suddenly is not nice I know. But there is an increasing conflict of interest between edit and management and my work ethics do not allow me to be a party to this. As always, transparency is the key word and
I want to share why I am taking this step.
1. The OLM Awards are being used to fulfil the advertising goals of the Group. In fact, we were all part of the meeting where we were told that the award should have gone to LIC despite it not making the cut since it is a large company with many readers as policyholders. In a subsequent mail from the President, I was told that the concern is that LIC has withdrawn all ads to the Outlook Group. I see it as a clear conflict of interest between ad and edit, especially since edit has sincerely worked on the awards in an attempt to make them the most
unbiased awards in the country -- and for which we involved eminent market professionals like Dr R.H. Patil of CCIL and Ravi Narian of NSE.
2. Edit is being blamed for falling circulation. When we were doing 1.5 lakh copies a fortnight there was no sharing of credit with edit by the management. But in the middle of a global downturn when the circulation of a market-linked product like OLM slips, edit is being blamed. I think all of you pull really hard, work sincerely and have re-created a sinking brand to a world class product that OLM is today.
On behalf of all of you comprising this fantastic team as well as personally, I do not accept this blame.
3. There is direct management intrusion into edit now. We are being asked to get our cover stories cleared by the publisher and send our stock picks to Outlook Profit for clearance. I think this is an insult to a team that has proved its worth many times over. I think the Group will be happier with a more pliable editor. I am not that person.

Breaking News! In a surprising development, which may put the ruling UPA government in an embarrassing position, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has turned the heat on his own government, saying it is not doing much for the 26/11 heroes, who laid down their lives during the recent Mumbai carnage.

Speaking at a meeting of Congress functionaries in Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi described martyr Tukaram Ombale as a hero. He saluted Ombale for fighting the terrorists even though he did not have a weapon. Rahul admitted that the government needed to do more to hail the real heroes of the country.

"Despite having only a lathi to fight, Tukaram Ombale snatched the gun from one of the terrorists and allowed others to capture him. Ombale got seven bullets in his stomach in the process and died a martyr's death", said Rahul.

Well, I am sure why Crown prince keep forgetting that its congress government both at centre and state? if Rahul is not satisfied with performance of these governments, he should either fire them(he can do it being crown prince) or leave the party. BUT PLEASE DONT PLAY BOTH SIDES

China tunes out of Obama's reference to communism

While millions across world tuned into Obamas inaugural speech, Chinese media tuned out from his references on communism.

Obama said in his 18-minute inauguration address said

"Recall that earlier generations faced down communism and fascism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions," 

He later added:

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

After the Chinese translator said the word "communism," the China Central Television feed went briefly silent, then shifted to an anchor who stumbled through a question to an analyst about what type of difficulties Obama faced with the US economy. The analyst looked equally caught off-guard. In the text translations available on top Chinese Internet portals Sina and Sohu on Wednesday, the word "communism" is omitted and the paragraph on dissent was gone.

Pakistan has said if India persisted with its demand for the extradition of Pakistani nationals linked to the Mumbai attacks, Islamabad would seek the handing over of persons involved in the 2007 bombing of the cross-border Samjhauta Express train.

After reports appeared in Indian media suggesting a possible link of the Malegaon blast accused with the train attack, political leaders here have been saying that the Government should seek the extradition of Indian nationals, including Col S K Purohit, for the Samjhauta bombing that killed nearly 70 people, including Pakistanis.

"If the Indian demand for handing over the accused in the Mumbai attacks persisted, then the accused of the Samjhauta Express case might be asked for" by Pakistan, Interior ministry chief Rehman Malik told Geo News yesterday.

Nashik: Lieutenant-Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit, a serving Army officer and a key suspect in the Malegaon blast of September 29, had 60 kg of RDX in his possession while he was in the Army’s Deolali camp in 2006, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) special prosecutor Ajay Misar told the Nashik court here on Friday. He was seeking Purohit’s remand extension.
Calling Purohit a “mastermind,” Mr. Misar argued that portions of the RDX were used in Malegaon and the Samjhauta Express blast of 2007.

It was pressure from an embarrassed Centre which forced the ATS to go back on its charge that 60 kg of RDX allegedly pilfered by Lt Col Prasad Purohit was used in the Samjhauta Express blast last year. Even though the ATS' public prosecutor Ajay Misar had told the Nashik court on Saturday that the RDX allegedly stolen by Lt Col Prasad was used in the Samjhauta blast, on Sunday the ATS claimed that he has been misquoted by the media.
Soon after Misar made the sensational charge in Nashik, the intelligence bureau (IB), which is keeping a close tab on the probe, alerted the Centre about the implications of Misar's statement. When the train blast took place, the Centre had blamed Pakistan's ISI for the terror strike on the basis of the bureau's findings.
"But the ATS' charge on Friday would have seriously impaired the Centre's credibility internationally. The central government has been informing its counterparts in the US and other countries about the role of the ISI and here the ATS was claiming that the blast was the handiwork of a serving Indian Army officer. Forensic examination of the blast site and two unexploded bombs had conclusively proved that RDX was not used, but the ATS was levelling an allegation to the contrary," a senior bureau official observed.

SHAME on Rahuls Poverty tourism

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Discovery of India’ is following such bizarrely unconventional ways that it is impossible not to subject it to public scrutiny. Last week he thought he needed a phirang co-discoverer and hence took British Foreign Secretary David Miliband to spend a night on a charpoy in the cowshed of a poor dalit widow in a village near Amethi, his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh.  

Miliband, 43, slept in Karma Devi’s house, whereas Rahul had a sleepover in the thatched hut of Shiv Kumari, another dalit woman in the neighbourhood. Rahul explained the purpose of this rural rendezvous:

“A lot of people come to India and they have a particular perspective based very much on the big cities. I thought it would be quite interesting for the foreign secretary to come to rural India.”

There was of course the mandatory visit to a milk collection centre, a school, a hospital and a women’s self-help group—all bearing the name of the Gandhi family. But make no mistake, it was India’s poverty on display for the benefit of Britain’s PM-in-waiting, courtesy the Congress party’s PM-in-waiting.

As Miliband himself wrote in his blog while leaving for Amethi:

“800 million Indians live on less than 2 dollars a day, 450 million on less than 1 dollar and I will get a chance to see some of the gap that exists between metropolitan middle class India and the rest.

Mukherjee said in a statement today

“We have never given up on the demand that perpetrators of the terror acts should be handed over to India,”

“There is no question of that we have given up that demand or we have climbed down.”

Its only yesterday, The minister told Aaj Tak television channel that India would accept Pakistan putting Mumbai attack suspects on trial provided that the legal process was “transparent.”

In a SHOCKING change of  public position on the extradition of the Mumbai attackers to India, Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee has told a news channel that if for some reason the suspects can't be handed over to India, then there should be a fair trial in Pakistan.Pranab said

"Indian fugitives should face Indian justice. Others who have committed crimes against India should also be extradited. But if for some reason that is not possible, then there should be a transparent trial in Pakistan," .

India has not identified any Indians behind 2611. From our past experience with Pakistan, this essentially means NO ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST 2611 culprits

Marad carnage: Life sentence for 62 convicts

The Special court in Kozhikode, Kerala sentenced 62 of the 63 convicts in the May 2003 Marad carnage case to life imprisonment. In May 2003, A group of Hindu fishermen sitting on the beach near a temple is attacked suddenly, without provocation or warning, by a mob of Muslims armed with swords. After a chaotic ten minutes, nine people are dead or bleeding to death on the beach. Many are seriously wounded. The attackers vanish into the night.

The police commissioner, TK Vinod Kumar later stated:

"It was an operation carried out by a well-knit organisation. It was a quick and sudden attack which was over in 10 minutes. The attack came from a particular community.

Crime Branch Inspector General of Police, Mahesh Kumar Singhla later confirmed that most of those arrested included the activists of the NDF, the IUML and the CPI-M.

Report of the Marad Carnage Inquiry Commission, headed by Justice Thomas P Joseph, said the then state government had failed to protect the lives of innocent citizens and "unjustifiably" refused a CBI inquiry after 14 fishermen were killed in Kozhikode by armed mobs. The role of Islamic organisation National Democratic Front and IUML has also come under the commission's scanner. Two IUML leaders — Mayin Haji and Moydeen Koya — are named as active accessories to the carnage. Many of those who gave evidence to the commission said IUML leaders, particularly P K Kunhalikutty and E Ahmed, were protecting the violators.

Inspite of commissions finding neither Congress & IUML Led UDF nor CPM led LDF has taken any actions to punish the masterminds.

During last assembly election, NDF activists were seen actively campaigning for Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Some CPM veterans admit they played vote bank politics. T K Hamsa , CPM MP says

“We are a democratic party and we have all the right to play vote bank politics come what may,”

NDF leader E Aboobacker says

“Why has Pinarayi Vijayan suddenly turned against us? How can a person blame us while investigations are still on,”  .

Not surprising coming from a state where a special session of the Kerala Assembly was convened to pass an unanimous resolution by both LDF and UDF members calling upon Tamilnadu Government to release Terrorist Madhani who is lodged in Coimbatore Jail. 

David Miliband endorses Rahul Gandhi

Congress is out to prove that their PM Candidate Rahul Gandhi is second to none. If Modi can get endorsement from India's Business Leaders, congress has gone a step further. They after taking into consideration their European linkage (Congress was formed by British and is lead by ex Italian) has now managed to get endorsement from British Foreign Secretary David Miliband. 

Perhaps as a prelude to the endorsement he took British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and his 11-member delegation was given a guided tour of Amethi. On his return from Amethi,  Miliband  said

Rahul had a "wide range of qualities" for which he had "high regards."

I am sure the congress high command would be beaming ear to ear for this endorsement from Queensman himself.

You cannot grow hops in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hops are the female flower cones, also known as strobiles, of the hop plant (Humulus lupulus). They are used primarily as a flavoring and stability agent in beer, though hops are also used for various purposes in other beverages and herbal medicine

It seems that you cannot cultivate Hops in Jammu and Kashmir because it hurts he religious sentiments of the people. Now you would be wondering how can growing a plant affect the Religious sentiments?

The story goes something like this. Kingfisher used to grow hops in Shilvat in 1973 but the facility was destroyed at the start of insurgency. for the unaware, Hops are used to balance the sweetness of the malt with bitterness. The more hops added, the bitter the beer. Now buoyed by the new secular and democratic government at helm, Kingfisher proposed to to resume growing hops immediately triggered protests from separatists.

Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Bashir-ud-din said Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim-majority state and nothing that goes against the religion of the majority would be tolerated. He said

“He (Mallya) should desist from going ahead with the project as it will hurt the sentiments of people. We will start peaceful protests against such deals,”

Hardline women’s leader Aisiya Andrabi, who heads the Dukhtaran-e-Milat, slammed Mallya’s proposal and said her group would start a campaign against the government, which she blamed for supporting the move. she said.

“Liquor sale or consumption is against our ethics and morals and I am sure this proposal has the blessings of the government,” 

In the end Vijay Mallya’s Kashmir Hops dream has crash-landed, with chief minister Omar Abdullah ruling today that the liquor baron can’t grow hops in the state.

Greeting Card to Zardari - PM's Munnabhai Move?

On one side of the spectrum, India is accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorism in India and other side Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is sending Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardaria New Year greeting card with a message of peace!

The card has a dove printed on the front and says  “with all good wishes for the new year.. inscribed by both Dr. Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur.

I being a "peace loving Indian" am really heartened to have a PM who even at such moments like this didnot forget to send "Good Wish" card to our detractors. I am sure with "Good Luck" he didnot mean "wish you good luck next time and may you kill 1000 and not lowly 100 as in 2611".  However, I being a dimwit(and non secular) donot understand the significance of this move. Is it because having failed to take any concrete action against Pakistan, PM has resorted to  "Munna Bhai" move hoping to shame Pakistan into action?

By the way did PM remember to send "Good Wish" card to parents of brave martyrs of 2611. I am not sure how they will react to the news that PM has send "good Wish" Card to people who killed Only Sons.

Some time back, Lamenting the poor quality of education in India compared to other countries, AICC general secretary and Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi took a dig at his alma mater, St Stephen’s College. He Said

“We don’t ask people (students) to ask questions. When I was studying at St Stephen’s College, asking a question was not (perceived to be) good in our class.
“You were looked down upon if you asked too many questions.”

But Stephanians thought otherwise.
A teacher who taught Rahul when he joined the college in 1989 to pursue History (hons) Said

"Rahul Gandhi always came with a couple of security guards to the college and mostly preferred to sit on the back bench and didn't ask anything. At St Stephen's, we not only encourage students to ask questions, but to ask even uncomfortable questions so that we can teach them to have an opinion,"

Pankaj Misra, an alumni who now teaches Sanskrit in the college, says,

"Rahul was two years my junior. He was neither too good in studies nor a regular student. So it doesn't really mean anything if he makes such remarks."

Another faculty member at the college who requested anonymity pointed out,

There are nearly 36 clubs and forums at the college which promote a liberal culture. The Informal Discussions Group allows students from all courses to discuss varied issues. But during his year-long stay at the college, Rahul hardly participated in any of these forums."

However as if to "expose" some nefarious activities in sabarimala and warn the pilgrims, they included two other negative news articles with the bulletin !  I am not sure what was the relevance of those two news with devotee rush at shabarimala? Why did they club these together

Did NDTV make any such claims when they released the news of Sainthood Alphonsa. Did NDTV question Miracles attributed to Alphonsa? Did they include news on churches sexual abuse history along with the news?

If not then why here?

Pro Left cleric to set up shariat court in Kerala

A shariat court that would play a mediatory role in settling disputes within the Muslim community is proposed to be set up at the Sunni Cultural Centre here.
A spokesperson for the centre said the decision to establish the shariat court for speedy and fair settlement of family disputes as well as issues affecting the Muslim community was announced recently in Mangalore by Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musaliar, Sunni leader and general secretary of the Sunni Scholars’ Organisation of India.

there are 2 groups of sunnis in kerala : EK and AP.EK is led by Muslim league supremo Shihab thangal and during last 2 elections all prominent cpim leaders starting from prakash karat visited kanthapuram's main madrassa in kozhikode in order to solicit muslim votes of AP group for the left.

Chidambaram says "see you next time"

if all the power centres of Pakistan genuinely get together and guarantee that this will not be repeated. See, the price they will pay if this is repeated, I think, will be enormous.

Maoist in Nepal on warpath against Hindus

On Thursday Maoists and cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) in Nepal stormed Nepal's holiest temple Pashupatinath defying Nepal's Supreme Court order of staying the appointment of Maoist appointed priests . Since the 18th century, Nepal had been following  the tradition of appointing priests from southern India, known for its orthodoxy and knowledge of intricate vedic rituals. Since the new appointments, the icon, which attracts thousands of devotees from all over the world, has not been worshipped as per tradition. It was for the first time in the last 300 years that no prayers were offered for a day at Pashupatinath temple.

Some 100 Maoist cadres on Sunday attacked the Pashupatinath temple caretakers who were protesting appointment of local priests in place of Indians, injuring 10 people in their latest assault on the shrine.

Not Surprisingly, Congress and Communists in India who have been so vocal about Palestine issue is silent about this entire issue!!

Post 2611 reactions from thought leaders, political class, Haindavta Leadership, Muslim Clerics was heartening. Everyone placed nation above the selfish interests, they spoke and acted in one voice. It seemed like a dream come true even if it was at the expense of 200 lives.

However like every dream, this dream has also coming to an end. First wakeup call came from our minority affairs minister Mr. A R Antulay. He borrowed a leaf from Pakistani TV hosts & ISI propaganda that the Mumbai attacks were the handiwork of "Hindu-Zionists"  and absolved LeT terrorists from the murder of Mr. Karkare. He gave enough hints to indicate that he believed "Other forces"(read Hindu Terrorists) were responsible for the heinous act. Nation was stunned but for a while it seemed that A R Antulays utterances were an aberration. In its new found zeal "Secular"  congress party also seemed to be inclined to take irresponsible behavior of Antulay.

But now other sections of the Muslim community — from Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid to Urdu press, including Munsif, the largest Urdu newspaper, Siasat, Inquilab and Urdu Times has joined the bandwagon. Ex-IFS officer and MP Syed Shahabuddin called Minister for Minority Affairs A R Antulay to congratulate him for “saying the unspeakable.” SP MP Rashid Masood, JD(U) MP Ejaz Ali and BSP MP Ilyas Azmi supported Antulay's demand for a separate probe into Karkare's death. 

How can India left be Left behind when it comes to appeasing muslim votebank. CPM leader Mohammed Salim pointed out that neither the government nor the Congress party was able to answer the questions raised by Antulay.

Now with so much support among Muslims for the claims of Antulay, how can we even remotely expect congress to take actions against Antualy. I am sure in coming days they will find some excuse to support Antualy.

The nation has woken up to the stark reality that for some group holds  "community" above national interest. It high time people who love this nation and has this nation as last abode understand and realise this.
